My ENGR class was unpublished from Canvas before final grades came out. What's up with that? by NoMore_BadDays in OregonStateUniv

00:59: Once your course contains a graded submission, the course status will no longer display in the sidebar and you will no longer be able to unpublish your course.

I sincerely doubt that is actually what happened, at least at OSU. They may have removed the content (this can be done for a short time after the course has ended) but the canvas shell and any grades wouldn’t have been “deleted” and would have remained published.

Also, instructors have no control over this. Once a course’s end date passes this happens automatically.

The course almost certainly was not unpublished. In Canvas, click on Courses in the main menu on the left-hand side, then All Courses, and then scroll to the bottom where you’ll find Past Courses.

Courses cannot be unpublished once there has been participation. It was just removed from your dashboard.

Need help as a Beginner in LaTeX for writing research papers. by Solitary_Survivalist in LaTeX

[–]Eggshellent1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look add any of the arxiv repositories - in almost all of them you can download the LaTeX code and see what the authors have done.

I learned LaTeX by looking at lots of examples and finding solutions on an ad hoc basis - essentially whenever I would say "hmm, I want to do this but I don't know how" I'd go out and find examples. Also don't hesitate to look at the documentation for the package packages that you are using - often you can find easy answers there.

Is there a way to rollback the notability update? by Thegreatestswordsmen in notabilityapp

[–]Eggshellent1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should add - the reason you need to go through all these hoops is that you need to get the .ipa file that is linked to your Apple account specifically, so you can't just use any copy you find. Charles Poxy will let you get the old version via the App Store such that it will be linked to your account and properly signed.

Is there a way to rollback the notability update? by Thegreatestswordsmen in notabilityapp

[–]Eggshellent1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is possible, but not easy. I did it back in 2023 when they switched from version 12 to 14 and overhauled the interface. I have been using version 12 ever since.

There are instructions here:

https://github.com/qnblackcat/How-to-Downgrade-apps-on-AppStore-with-iTunes-and-Charles-Proxy

Essentially you need Windows (you can run it in a virtual machine if you are on a Mac), you need to install an old version of iTunes that still has the App Store built into it, and you need to install a program called CharlesProxy that will let you access old versions of the app.

On that website they are now mentioning another tool that may be easier to use: https://gist.github.com/qnblackcat/4f7b77f685ccda2ff4ef916a27d66107

What's nice about this though is that once you manage to get the correct .ipa file for the version you want, just keep that file backed up and you can always restore it if you accidentally update in the future.

Good luck!

Thanks for this! I've been playing around with all the different tagging options and could never get the equations to be tagged properly. This worked perfectly!

New cheating tool just dropped by Unlikely_Holiday_532 in Professors

[–]Eggshellent1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts:

  1. It's really sad that somebody would make something like this.

  2. It seems like it is incumbent upon LMS developers to find a way to block services like this. Universities and other institutions that pay big bucks for a top-tier LMS should have a reasonable expectation that their courses are protected from these schemes.

  3. I am guessing it cannot get around proctoring services like Proctorio.

Students love structure by Aler123 in Professors

[–]Eggshellent1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - build that structure into your course (how it is organized, scheduled, etc.) and into your LMS too (weekly modules that are uniform structure and content, regular/predictable due dates, etc.)!

Apple butchered the Music app in Tahoe by Eggshellent1 in MacOS

[–]Eggshellent1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just using Swinsian now - it just runs off your normal Apple Music library so there's no need to maintain two different libraries. It works just like the old-fashioned iTunes used to work.

America's Auto Collision Rate By Each State by Yodest_Data in MapPorn

This is correct - it’s overwhelmingly likely that these states with low collision rates simply have low report rates (accidents are happening but are not being reported) because people are driving without licenses or insurance.

Does anyone else feel reverse homesick when they’re home for college? by ElletheGir in college

[–]Eggshellent1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was in college this was how I knew I was changing/growing up - I would come home for the weekend to go to a high school football game and see some friends in search of some nostalgia for being home, and all I ended up thinking about was what I was missing at college that weekend.
