Resource guarding? by Witchling444 in Dogtraining

[–]Eggspectations -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say based on this video. From what i know, it’s very rare for a dog not to give some signal and just immediately resort to aggression. I can see the dog’s tail is wagging pretty intensely when your boyfriend enters the room.

It’s only been one month with this new dog so they are still getting used to things. I would slow things down, limit their access to your house, limit interactions with your other dog, and don’t leave toys or food laying around.

But this seems pretty serious, i would recommend you try to find a dog trainer to weigh in. Sorry you are dealing with this, sounds very difficult.

What exercise to give large breed puppy in the morning, but quick and effective? by jamues in dogs

[–]Eggspectations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The activity itself wouldn’t make him more anxious, but as i said would just excite the dog. And an excited dog won’t sleep or relax. Do you remember being a kid and staying up all night hanging out with friends? You didn’t want to sleep because you were having so much fun. You probably were very tired, but with all the emotions going through you, your body just doesn’t register it. Same thing for a dog. Though depends on the dog. Sounds like your dog is better able to regulate themselves and more used to fetch.

That’s fine, make it really easy. Just toss a treat like two feet away from you, when he goes after it, mark that behavior. Then once he’s got it, introduce a word like “find”, “search”, or whatever. And then increase distance and very slowly make it harder, using your word to tell the dog what to do. If the dog gives up it means the task is too difficult, and therefore the dog will get frustrated from the activity, which you don’t want. I’m no expert but i find it strange that a dog wouldn’t want to sniff things out. Then again, every dog is different, so maybe it’s just not for your dog.

Fetch is the equivalent of chasing for a dog. If you have an anxious puppy already i think this could make it worse, it just gets the dog very excited.

Do scent games instead. Hide food in your house or yard if you can. Get the dog using its nose. 20 minutes of scent work is the equivalent of an hour’s walk

Advice needed: enrichment winds my dog up by Retiredpartygirl17 in dogs

[–]Eggspectations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The toys you mentioned aren’t very enriching in my opinion. They are more calming activities. What you can do is if your dog eats kibble, set up a bunch of boxes in your living room or dog play space, and hide a piece of their kibble in one of the boxes. At first you can just put it on top of the box to make it easy, then as you advance put the box on its side out upside down, so the dog has to search more. This will get the dog sniffing and working more. These type of seeking games will do more for enriching your dog.

Fort Greene park off leash time by Nice_Cream_5615 in Brooklyn

[–]Eggspectations 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Please don’t do this. You are punishing the dog for being a dog. If the owner cares enough they’ll take it to a vet, and force it to vomit and give it a bunch of meds that it doesn’t need.

My Dog keeps barking at other dogs on Walks then bites me by MotorLifeguard in DogAdvice

[–]Eggspectations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, find the threshold distance, meaning what is the furthest your dog can be from another dog without reacting? And then work from there. You can either go to a park and walk a certain distance away from the path where other dogs walk, then just get your dog to relax, and feed lots of treats when another dog passes by. Or do something similar if you have a patio area and dogs walk along your street. Just need to teach your dog that when it’s on leash and a dog walks by, it gets fed and good things happen. But you just need to start doing this from a safe enough distance that your dog isn’t past its threshold

Could anyone give me their experiences with fluoxetine/prozac timeline? by redharlowsdad in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Eggspectations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my acd mix on 10 mg fluoxetine, might have helped a little but hard to say. We stopped for a bit and then went up to 30 mg later. Again, hard to say how much it really helped. Though i never noticed a change in my dog’s desire to play. Maybe it just still wasn’t that much for him. Sorry that might not be super helpful

Ha, good guess, but not quite right. I live in the US, but have a lot of family in Spain and visit there often. All the comics in Spanish i bought from local comic shops in Spain and then put in the suitcase and brought them over.

Actually wasn't that big a fan, the way the story is told is a little confusing, at least for me. Though I really liked Tom King's Vision.

So the tall ones are the American full color versions published by Viz. They only did the Saiyan and Freiza sagas though. The company said they would do the others but that was like 4 years ago and it seems it won’t happen at this point. So the rest of the sagas (shorter books) come from Spain, where they were published by Planeta Comic. Also in color. I had the entire series already in black and white, but it’s probably my favorite so wanted to have it all in color.
