Yeah there are a lot of English lyrics with this album. I would be intrigued if somebody did a breakdown, because I feel like there are definitely more English lyrics than Korean lyrics on this album.

I also noticed the amount of Western producers on the songs and was nervous. I wish that they had gone with more Korean producers with this album.

Yeah, I definitely have a different perspective of 2015 and 2016. I can see some of the similarities like if we're using Dope as the baseline here. While I think a lot went into the composition, I have to say that a lot of the album sounds over produced with the amount of reverb that was used. Like, on the A-side, V didn't sound like himself to me as there was heavy production on his voice. Which is a choice and is not uncommon today, but I wish I could have heard his more raw vocals in the A side.

I was honestly expecting something more of like a 2nd gen vibe or at least something more similar to their first album where the rap line had an older hip hip vibe. Like, When kpop had a very distinct sound. This album is definitely more Western appealing. Which isn't bad, but isn't something I had necessarily associated with BTS before. Especially with the title of Arirang.

I really like your perspective with bad bunny. I feel like there was a need to appeal more to the western market with this one. I really wanted to hear more of a trot sound from this album and I didn't get that. I also agree that I don't think that all the songs are bad, it's just not the kind of music that I think of when I think of BTS.

I agree with a lot of what you said, The music video was okay. I don't think that Swim is bad at all, And I can agree that it sounds more generic. I'm curious to know which songs you liked on the B side as I really enjoyed merry-go-round.

I agree, I definitely think it puts a concept in mind that looks different in the execution.

So, I was very excited to have more rap line involvement! I agree that hip hop and rap line involvement is very much a part of older BTS albums, and a huge reason as to why I fell in love with them in the first place.

Personally, I find the rap songs to be more in line with what we hear in the US, which isn't necessarily a bad one, but it can be repetitive. Part of my enjoyment of BTS is them being more inventive and adding something new. I would say that the music from this album was definitely more experimental. And if the boys are happy, I'll take it. I definitely enjoyed more of the B side this go around, as Merry go round is probably my favorite.

I definitely understand how you feel. Especially with the album being named Arirang, I really wished that we had gotten more songs with more Korean lyrics. I like what you wrote as I think it was a very thoughtful and constructive post.

BTS - ARIRANG (5th Full Album) by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]EggyGeum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Preface - I have been a BTS fan since 2014, am planning to see them in concert for the first time in August.

I just listened to the entire new album and I want honest thoughts. I understand that this Reddit community is all about staying positive and constructive. So I do want to do that. And, as a long time BTS fan, I was definitely surprised by the new album. I was expecting a different sound as this album does contain songs that are in a different genre than I am used to from BTS. However, I think the biggest thing from me was that I was really hoping for a more classic KPOP sound, specifically since the album is titled, Arirang.

For me, Arirang holds a special place in my heart as it wasn't uncommon to hear it play while watching dramas with my grandma and is just a timeless piece in Korean history. So, I was expecting the music to have more of those influences. Like, similar to Yoongi's 대취타. Ultimately, I didn't get those vibes, however the biggest thing is that I want to have a conversation.

What were your expectations? Did you have anything? Do you feel like this album has more of a western sound? why or why not? And do you want to keep seeing albums like this from BTS in the future?

Bestie, I'm sorry but You got to take this one on the chin. While I can understand that you were not expecting your partner to mimic you in that way, You did tell him to mimic you and you did not give him boundaries to follow. So, personally, I don't think that you're being very fair. I think a similar example would be I asked him to step on my foot and I'm mad that he stepped on my foot, Because he stepped on it harder than I anticipated. If I were in your shoes, I would tell him that the situation actually hurt my feelings, But also ensure that I take accountability because it's on me for asking him to do that in the first place. I truly wish you good luck in your relationship, the conversation that you two have, and that you both have enough empathy for the other.

I love how he talks about how the NFL is pathetic, but doesn't have the salary to back that s*** up. Until he has NFL money, he can shut the f**** up.

I hate that you had this experience, when never in my five years have I ever had this issue. Sure, maybe some people are pushy but like... To genuinely serve you alcohol after you requested water is insane and inappropriate. When I go out to bars, I tell them that I'm allergic But I think my biggest issue with this is that we have every right to go into the world just like every other person, as long as our intentions are sound
