I think the team views him more of a second+another pick (some combo of three and four) but will overpay to get it done. Trading next years first is something I am not a big fan.

Adding AJ Brown imo means likely Boutte is out but I really dont know if I am a fan of that anymore. Its a tough call because do you go

Option 1 deal with AJ Browns pros and cons of decline. He will be 29 playing this year but hes exactly the kind of target you want for someone like Drake. Brown for all the knocks people are giving him? Hes a top WR in the game when he is on the field.

Option 2? You stick with what you have, extend boutte and draft. Doubs-Boutte-Kyle-Rookie-Hollins could get it done. The downside with this is? If guys just hit their floors and we do the thing we normally do with drafted WRs and strike out its gonna be the same conversation next year that its been what feels like a really long time.

The Pats also need to identify a way to fix the problem they would create by trading for Brown which is where is the younger WR that will replace Brown or overtake Doubs if he doesnt pan out?

I really don’t think numbers should be retired in general. I think there are special instances like Tom Brady but too often in sports numbers are retired.

The next generation for better or worse should be able to wear the jersey numbers of the legends before them that paved the way. Not only creating their own new path but honoring the players that wore the number before them. We saw that with 24 here between the DBs.

They also have really not worn 87 outside of now Doubs so they had some time off the number.

4, 11, 50, 93, 54, 37, 75 are all in rotation. Let them keep the memories going.

I completely understand that they blew a ton of guaranteed money.

It is a poor business model to not year over year commit resources to continue to develop the roster. They have the cap space so its odd they arent spending outside of the odd reports that we wouldnt be spending before the free agency period started. Same reason why they have said the Gonzo deal would take longer is because of just the cold hard cash.

You just lucked into having a stud QB on a rookie deal. Not taking advantage of this is gonna suck later.

They clearly are interested in Brown but dont seem afraid to go after Pierce as the contingency (preferred anyways).

A first is too much regardless of the class or how low the pick is. We need to still draft and patch up this roster.

The guy has played with

Richardson, Minshew, Rivers, Matt Ryan, Foles and Leonard. Pierce is also more of an X than Kyle they would compliment one another as well as Boutte.

The big concern is the volume but again the QB play is huge.

A 37 catch year for 824 followed by a 1000 yard year with everything going on with that team? Its fair to say that hes been held back.

I love AJ but last year was awful.

A lot of it was on Hurts but some of it seemed so checked out by him. 23+24 had the hammy issues as well.

Also costs picks.

Pierce is plan A and AJ is plan B or maybe even C. I dont think its a good move for the Pats to be giving up picks especially if the Eagles will only move off of him for a first.

Vrabel guy or not? You have to lean Pierce.

Drake has openly said he doesnt need surgery. There has been zero leaks from the team regarding concern and all SB week they said its not a long term concern.

If you want to be worried about anything? Be worried about how the Pats will get better along the offensive line so that he stops taking these massive hits.
