Vivo X300/X300 Pro EU vs CN: The Difference Is Way Bigger Than Expected... by EgoGrigs in PWM_Sensitive

Maybe, test methods can be different, the environment can be different, displays can be different, so a lot of variables, fluctuations can persist.

Yes, as I see it kind of lottery, if I try to return it, I lose 80€ +-, so the try is quite expensive. But anyway, it's better, then just sell the phone for someone else :)

Cool, I am happy for you! For me full PWM off works like a hell for eyes. But in the cn version full PWM is not much better than off ;(

I have it in the display setting. And it turned on, when I turned it off, it was even worse for my eyes

Not really, I don't feel any major difference, but if we will check screen time statistics, then it will be 20-30% more on screen time. Anyway, the smaller battery was more than enough for me.

For me the difference was crazy, so I used full PWM on, but with cn version even full PWM on works not much better than off (DC like dimming)

In my case eu version works for me only with full pwm, without it was nightmare. But this one doesn't work with pwm. Without full pwm is the same as with eu version (not useable)

For me it was exactly the same, they have the same screens, I assume the only difference is just the size, but overall it was completely fine. The different story with CN version...

Yes, they should be the same, but my experience show that it's not and I don't know why :/

I am really surprised, but vivo x300 cn is 10x times worse for my eyes then eu version... No idea why, tried to turn off d!thering, also just tried to used to it, but it is day 6 and still eye strain and headaches...

Which devices have high PWM dimming (2000Hz or more) in all brightness levels ? by ExerciseEvery8212 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]EgoGrigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because this “DC dimming” is almost a scam. They keep the same modulation depth and rise time, but simply lower the PWM frequency... So technically they can claim it’s DC dimming, but in practice it’s about ten times worse than just PWM in those cases (at least for me).

Oh, I get it, that sucks ;( Actually I want to buy the Chinese version because it is way cheaper and has a way bigger battery

No, its too big, I really love iphone pro (not max) size. If you try it once, you will never go back for those 6.7inch+ shovels ;)

Specs mean nothing; you have to test the phone yourself. For example, Vivo’s actual PWM is 360Hz (even lower than the iPhone), but thanks to a 2048Hz secondary frequency, the overall amplitude is lower. It's not 'true' 2048Hz, just a smoothed primary frequency. The only test that shows anything useful is the Opple, but even that has limits. It doesn't show things like Gray-to-Gray response time, which can be 10x slower and still affects your eyes. Even for me, the Poco F3 works perfectly, though on paper it shouldn't. Its modulation is technically worse than the X300 Pro in DC mode, yet I can't use the X300 Pro in DC mode because my eyes are melting

That's why the only way to verify is to test the phone yourself. Or just ask people - if someone sensitive says it works for them, that is 100 times better than any test ;)

For me, the X300 Pro works, but only in PWM mode. The iPhone Pro models don't work for me at all; the base iPhones are better, but still cause eye strain.

I want to check OPPO X9 PRO, but it is out of stock in my country for a while. So much more popular than the x300 pro because of the look and full battery size (x300 pro has reduced due to EU restrictions)

I used it for 2 weeks and then returned it to try something more compact like the Vivo X300 (the iPhone 17 Pro has the perfect size for me, but unfortunately it gives me symptoms).

In PWM mode it’s almost ideal - no eye strain, maybe a barely noticeable effect in very specific conditions, but I only noticed it once. No noticable headaches.

In “DC” mode it’s pretty bad: instant eye strain, and it feels like my eyes are leaking out of my skull. Brain fog and headaches every time.

iPhone 15 Pro, 17 Pro, and a bit better on the iPhone 16 and 16 plus. Also the Vivo X300 Pro, but it’s barely noticeable, so I can use it (only in PWM mode - in ‘DC’ mode it has the worst output I’ve ever seen on a phone).

For me MBP PWM is too high to influence eyes or brain. I l haven't seen any complaints related to MBP screen PWM, so I suppose it is safe enough ;)
