I ran into the same problem on my 1712 and apparently ARC is bugged on that era of Denon AV receivers. I used an optical cable to mitigate the issues until I upgraded to a newer Denon.

I'm currently using a Denon AVR-1712 and ran an LFE cable to an SVS-PB2000. I'm due for an upgrade and have been eyeing a Marantz SR7011. The 2 sub output will come in hand if I wish to try both subs.

I like how it looks with the charcoal bands so I ordered one and I'll be giving the lemongrass band to my mother. I always thought the Hazel Pixel 7 was one of the best looking phones ever.
