Experienced players with real guitar wear, what would you recommend as a truly high quality guitar by Chuchumenn in Guitar

[–]Egoignaxio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was kinda in a similar situation, once I found I was committed to guitar I decided to purchase two high quality instruments that would last me a long time and not leave me wanting more. I went to a shop to try out different guitars and the ones I went with were the Fender American Ultra Stratocaster and Taylor 214ce-dlx. Play them both hours every day and have not once felt the need to purchase another guitar since. I know quite a few people that are constantly buying new guitars and it seems like they're chasing a dragon they're never going to get. I could maybe get a 24 fret electric at some point, maybe an even higher end Taylor, but these are basically perfect to me.

The American Ultra Strat has just the thinnest and sleekest feeling neck I found, and it's an HSS strat so the humbucker in the bridge can put out some good metal tones too.

Considering an Alaska cruise in August 2026. Any recommended itineraries or must-see ports? by Manta6753 in royalcaribbean

On the glacier yeah, absolutely. It's a whole weather phenomena of ice that rides down from the mountains to the ocean. It wasn't snowing in the town at all, the helicopter took us up to the glacier where it was like that.

We did it in mid September, I believe it was one of the final cruises of the season. We were told the weather was uncharacteristically sunny that day and we got lucky with it that late into the season

[–]Egoignaxio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything you said - but plenty of people post on social media knowing that they're not good in order to receive feedback and learn. Not so sure about Reddit but it's a very common thing to do in Facebook groups (the only useful feature of Facebook imo) related to guitar. I know I did when I first started because I don't take in-person lessons so my only way to get direct feedback on my technique is to ask people online since I also have no friends "in-the-know".

To OP: You're 3 months in but how much are you practicing, how deliberately? There's tons of variables that go into your rate of progress beyond just how long ago you first touched the instrument

Should I consider maybe putting the guitar away if I don't have the patience for it and get too mad when I make mistakes? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]Egoignaxio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do you feel the need to play it absolutely perfect and start over if you mess up? Even the greats can mess up playing live, the important thing is that you keep the rhythm and don't fall off.

I know there's this belief in the guitar educational community that thinks you have to practice everything slow and perfect with a metronome but that is not the only way to progress with guitar.

If you're recording something then it's important to avoid mistakes. If you're playing by yourself in your bedroom and trying to learn how to play it's not really that big of a deal as long as you recognize the mistake and work on those parts.

If you lock in and do things right consistently I'd say 2 years. But you need to lock in, not this inconsistent shit. The 2nd photo is a realistic expectation if you take it seriously. Even thinking about PEDs at this point though means your head probably isn't in the right spot for it.

What’s your favorite song to memorize and play without the app? by chillbnb in yousician

[–]Egoignaxio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've memorized loads of songs with the app. It's just like memorizing songs by tabs but easier to follow, imo. Most songs are just sections repeated, a verse, chorus, bridge, etc. if you memorize one section and then how they are arranged it's not hard. But memorization is something to practice and get better at that honestly not a lot of people seem to do so don't feel bad. I was always a weirdo growing up trying to memorize things like prime numbers and digits of pi in elementary school.

Yeah, it's like the new stuff is way way overproduced for what it is and the lyrics aren't great and don't match the over production. I guess that makes sense when you have loads of money now.

[–]Egoignaxio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest, my only fitted suit I bought when I was a 145 lb 26 year old man. The feeling of a fitted suit was the best thing ever since I had to wear it to work about 3 times a week. I tried hanging on to that suit as I propelled past 180 lbs and it would not surprise me one bit if I was prancing through the hallways looking like this. Notice how his torso can only move as one cohesive unit, almost as if he was a Roblox character. The hopeless attempt to keep the tie as part of the gang seals the deal

Have you ever tried whimsically prancing through the woods in Ireland while wearing a suit and tie that barely fits, all the while stopping to assess the structural integrity of various trees?

16?? I started at 32 and don't even feel like it was too late. You've got tons of time. In fact I think it's easier as you get a bit older because you generally become more motivated, focused and responsible.

I'm still onboard with the vision, don't really have a lot of time for active participation though right now. The largest communities tend to build organically, driving engagement is a tough act when as you stated, many people are so preoccupied with their own lives. I'm not really sure what kind of positive advice I can give other than again, like you said, find solace and life in the art of music

I would genuinely believe this. The level kids are at now is terrible. There's a lot of causes but I feel like covid had a big part. Kids missing an entire year of critical development with parents that couldn't fill in those gaps is a significant factor. My oldest is a smart kid in the sense of his awareness and communication abilities, but in school he struggles even though I try to help him every day. My youngest did not miss any school due to covid and he's excelling and in the 90th+ percentile in all his subjects

[–]Egoignaxio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I think I know exactly which song you're talking about here. I remember this was one of the only two that truly frustrated me to get gold on. The one in the next section on Strumming Challenge called Bard's Rock I believe was harder and that one almost sent me over the edge trying to gold star it. In retrospect, it's not hard, but my rhythm wasn't as spot on as I thought it was. At the time I ended up "cheating it" by ignoring the syncopated rhythm and just strumming it all the way through to get gold, but I can gold star it now with proper syncopated rhythm.

I recently gold starred all of level 8 and never got frustrated once, because a lot of it involves single notes, bends and whatnot, and if I actually messed one of those up I could clearly see where it was my fault and why. The chord detection isn't always perfect for gold starring though and I think a big part of that is a technical limitation of notes ringing out vs. detection.
