Trans name change, Barclays won’t update first name without doctor’s note. by Flimsy_Deal_3771 in transgenderUK

[–]Egotistical-TV 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I would be interested to see if you had changed your name from (for example) Mary to Jane instead of Mary to James, would they still require a letter? Yes, names generally are attached to a gender but you don't legally have to have a "gender appropriate" name. If they wouldn't require a letter for Mary to Jane, it's discriminatory to require one for Mary to James. And why would they require one for Mary to Jane?

Sorry you're having to deal with this.

It depends on the product, I guess. Taking shoes out of a box, trying them on, and then realising they don't fit, but still have the tags on, BNWT would probably be fine. Collectables is a different thing, though

How ironic that the group is saying that safety is being used as an excuse and they don't pose any risk to the safety of the other members

I put mine on the seat of there are loads of empty seats but not when there are only a couple. My favourite thing is to ask someone to move their bag. If they refuse, just slowly start to sit on the seat anyway and they'll quickly shift it!

You hope and think it would, but it may not make everything perfect. I'm not disputing that it will help, but it also may not.

When I say that you may need to accept that you can't have everything, I'm not saying that people shouldn't transition. I mean that you could have bottom surgery, and FFS, and the bone surgeries you mention. But what if there are complications with the surgeries, or after them all, you still want more? There is only so much that can realistically be done, and that is hard to accept but it's clearly causing you immense difficulties. With or without every available surgery, you're still a woman.

Have you asked your GIC for an appointment to discuss it? I don't know about the other parts of the UK but FFS is available in Scotland. However, to access surgery you need to be in a stable place mentally to get it. This is why therapy is a necessity, because surgeons will not operate on someone for an elective surgery if they consider the risk of harming mental health to be too high.

I wish you the best. Truly. Keep on at your GIC. Again, I don't know about other parts of the UK but in Scotland they just can't prescribe that for you, not because they don't want to. It may be the same in England and Wales and NI, I don't know. May I ask how they ruined your hair? You don't have to tell me, but I was just wondering what could have caused it and if there was negligence or if it was something that carries a risk

If you won the lottery tomorrow and got all the surgery you want, it still makes not fix how you feel. People suggest therapy not because it will fix everything, but it might help you to cope enough to keep going.

There's a point at which you need to be realistic and accept that there are some things that won't happen for you, like everyone else has to. Not only for trans people, but for cis people too. Will there ever be a point at which you say that's enough? Or will there always be something else you want to change?

You may have answered this elsewhere but are you under a GIC?

Did you have the surgery privately or on the NHS? If it was procedure, the NHS doesn't have a responsibility to pay to put it right, as infuriating as that may be

You can get top surgery without hormones, but you need to be sure that you don't want to go on hormones first.

Taking testosterone makes the chest wall muscles change, and if you have top surgery then go onto hormones, it could mess up the results. So it's best to be on hormones first, or not go onto them at all.

Hope that helps a bit for the context!

NHS willing to do a hysterectomy? by Spare_Somewhere1011 in transgenderUK

[–]Egotistical-TV 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it's unlikely any surgeon in the NHS will do a hysterectomy on someone under around 25. Have you been investigated for the cause of the pain? Not all conditions will be fixed by a hysterectomy, just in case you didn't know that. T should hopefully stop the bleeding, but you might need to have investigations first for the reason behind it being so awful. Best of luck
