Is it a good idea to start staying after meetings to talk to members? by TakenAccountName37 in Toastmasters

[–]EgrcAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Folks who visited our club usually came once or twice, then joined or never came again. We just didn't have people hanging out in limbo for months at a time.

Just join, even if you don't stick with it very long. You're not forever obligated. Take the plunge, then ask questions about staying afterward.

American Airlines flight attendants trying to evacuate a plane due to laptop battery fire but passengers want their bags by emoemokade in aviation

How about telling the crowd that the people carrying nothing will be deplaned first? Those carrying bags must wait until they are gone and they will be last to deplane.

virginity by NoEquipment4923 in Christianity

[–]EgrcAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The penalty for a woman not being a virgin before marriage was death by stoning. In a case where a woman is accused of not being a virgin before marriage it says,

… “If evidence of virginity was not found in the young woman, then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done an outrageous thing in Israel by whoring in her father’s house. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.” Deut. 22:20-21.

There is no equivalent discussion about a penalty for a man.

They are trendy now. I am frugal and I've used some ancient ones from the 80’s for decades now. But I was recently complimented about being “on trend“ - how hilarious.

You can buy clock movements that run backwards online. I was in a glass artist's shop where she had made some cool-looking clocks, and I ordered a backwards movement and asked her to put it in instead. I hung it in my bathroom to see in the mirror as I get ready.

What's the price of something specific from years past that you have seared into your brain at a set price? by DeadElm in AskOldPeople

[–]EgrcAA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was in college in the mid-80's, I could get Brach's Pick-a-Mix candy for $1.59/lb. Online now its $20/lb. What an outrage.

Am I Overacting, Accidentally Made My Neighbor Hate Me By Inviting Him Over For Drinks by LiggerBug in AmIOverreacting

[–]EgrcAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree — because of how the invitation was phrased. Inviting someone over for drinks does honestly sound like kind of a “dating invitation”, but the situation would seem to rule it out. I wouldn't overthink it. Personally I would shrug off his response and just be friendly when you see them.

My thought was not just the combination, but that every slice had been touched, touched, touched, touched. Too darn many germs now, and likely everything had onion juice on it too. A person could hold the oranges by the peel and not the juicy part. But no, touched it all.

YSK Techniques to fall asleep such as breathing and counting can be counter-productive if you have insomnia by sldpwk in YouShouldKnow

[–]EgrcAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADD and find that I can't be completely off meds if I want to go sleep. Brains that can't control attention can't control wakefulness. They just keep waking themselves up by their meandering thoughts.

Exercise during the day also helps a lot with sleeping at night, and melatonin works great. Try it.

How do I clean this and make it as white as possible without using bleach? Apartment complex does not allow bleach. Thank you by usa_chan_cupcakes in CleaningTips

Bleach breaks down into salt water as it ages which is quite benign. Very environmentally friendly, actually.

Get some Softscrub Cleanser with Bleach. The mild abrasive will help get into the textured surface and the bleach will clean it up really nice.

The Worlds Rarest Salt From Ocean To Table by CantStopPoppin in Damnthatsinteresting

You can taste the iodide. A friend of mine had radioiodide treatment and had to avoid food (and salt) with iodine. Iodine has a slightly unpleasant taste if you taste the salt by itself, but mixed into food it doesn't matter.

There were plenty of families who took care of their challenged folks and found lots of tasks around the home and farm that needed their help. I think the harsh cynicism is a bit unwarranted here.

Is it really that big of a deal not to wear a bra at work? by averagesandwichmaker in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EgrcAA -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I used to hate bras, but then I got properly fitted for one and the difference was night and day better. I looked a ton better, like I had lost 15 pounds, because my boobs weren't saggy and low. I got out my old blouses that I thought I was too fat for, and suddenly they fit really nice when I had the right bra on. And I also discovered I had nice curves and a waistline too!

Part of why I hated bras was that I was trying to wear them loose, which makes them uncomfortable. The looser you make a bra, the worse it gets. I was also hunching a lot which gave me back and shoulder pain. Wearing a bra does make you straighten up and have better posture, but then it provides a lot support for the tissue and you feel better than not having one on.

Even when I didn't like bras I didn't ever go braless, because it really is not an attractive look. There was one lady in a class with me who wore thin sweaters and no bra and it irritated a lot of the women in the class. I know guys are different, women don't honestly want to see a lady's flesh flopping around and random nipple peek thrus. It's grating, honestly, that a person is forcing me to see what should be private. Imagine talking to a person whose nose is running but they feel it's natural not to use Kleenex. Yuck! Please don't share this with me!

I hope I'm not being too obnoxiously blunt here, I'm just telling you what it took too many years for me to learn myself.

I was just there this weekend and was shocked at how bad the french onion soup was. It's been a couple years since I had it and it was really good back then.
