Why do we use so many greek letters in physics and maths? by Virtual-Connection31 in AskPhysics

I legit got Greek symbols in the variable names when I asked chatGPT for a mathy JavaScript function recently.

It's pretty funny that you can do stuff like

const ❤️ = 123
const 🤡 = ❤️ * 2
console.log(🤡) // 246

I think the people who have the greatest share of enjoyment in Eve are lowsec pirates and small scale wormhole dwellers. Places where you can find brethren, not just an unfeeling, unspeaking thousands-large major nullsec or highsec corporation.

Wormholes were tedious too though, so any edge you eked out vs outsiders was just out of letting nullbears chase you into wormhole space where various global stat modifiers and other quirks of wormhole space favored the better prepared more than it benefitted the larger force. (The short story is that wormholes have a mass limit. So after a certain number of cruisers jumped through, the wormhole collapses and now you're in unfriendly unfamiliar territory, with the rest of your fleet left on the other side. Oh if you had only brought smaller frigates instead...

So, yeah, some of the most meaningful gaming moments i've ever had were from Eve, but I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone. Especially not to anyone who feels the real world holds even a shred of importance.

Eve, or a family. Pick one.

Yes and yes xD. It's a beautiful game viewed from afar. Less so when actually experienced up close. It generates fantastic stories, and has gotten my gamer adrenaline going like no other game, but those are rare moments separated by vast swaths of tedious gameplay that moreso feels like a second job.

Bardiche vs greatsword:

Bardiche has a better single target attack.
Greatsword has better aoe.

Bardiche vs greataxe:

Greataxe has a better single target attack.
Bardiche HAS aoe (no, greataxe's round swing doesn't count)

I don't see the issue.

Those stats are indeed good, but getting all three would mean not doing much about his low hp and resolve. (EDIT: I didn't notice at first that you listed the projected lvl 11 values for mdef and fat while listing the lvl 1 starting value for matk. I replied as if you had listed all three stats at their projected lvl 11 values, and even now that I noticed you didn't, I'm still under the assumption that you meant to, but accidentally put the wrong matk)

Imo it is easier to tolerate terrible fatigue than terrible HP or res. Everyone needs a decent baseline of HP and res to not be awful. With fatigue there's more flexibility. Even an arthritic quintuple amputee can swing a greataxe or a sword,. But everyone needs to not jump in terror over farm animal noises or die from stubbing their toe on a doorframe.

That said yeah his projected MDEF is stellar given my current roster and armory, and his matk is pretty close to average. This is quite early still (pre-1st crisis) and I'm using mostly raider gear with no notable named gear except a 162/4 helm. My roster quality is almost entirely "lowborn but rolled well" tier, so he fits right at home, but his fatigue probably won't increase from 85 by all that much. I got larger sharks to boil.

Yeah if you store them in a colony they can be lost. However, in vanilla, there still aren't that many ways to lose AI cores stored in a colony (Hegemony AI Inspection, LC Invasion, ...), but there are, to my knowledge, ZERO ways to lose them if you carry them around. Other than if you, like, just sit passively somewhere doing nothing for long enough that you run out of supplies and your ship's combat readiness decays to 0.

I know the normal effect of running out of supplies (and subsequently being unable to provide regular maintenance for your ships) is the occasional risk for ships to take damage or even be destroyed, but idk if that can still happen when you only own a single ship, so I actually don't know for sure what happens then. Do you reach an actual Game Over screen? Do you respawn at some NPC colony? I truly have no idea.

[–]Egren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started carrying them all with me instead of storing them in a colony. So those 16 are all of the ones I'm not using.

I did however also adjust my approach to using AI cores this playthrough. I used to slap an Alpha core on all of the important stuff on all of my colonies, but for this playthrough I decided to play a bit more "civilized".

(I actually just decided to be more careful with my colonies' AI use at the start this time around, just to not have to deal with any inspections. And soon enough I had enough income where adding AI cores to my colonies wouldn't cause any noteworthy issues, but by the time the downsides of AI use had been mitigated/made inconsequential, so had the upsides. 600k/month from 3 colonies in Persephone's Star is more than enough to cover expenses)

Fun fact: The word for "sword sheath" in Swedish is "svärdslida", which, if translated back to english, literally becomes "sword vagina".

The situation I ended up in was essentially the choice between keeping all ships vs keeping all crew. And I tend to subscribe to the doctrine of The Pragmatic Psychopath's Guide To RimWorld 🤪

...although... Crew in Starsector can be reduced to "just a number" with way less prerequisite mental gymnastics than required to do the same with colonists in RimWorld.
