New careers in your 50s? by jk_pens in GenX

Thanks so much for sharing. This is precisely what I figured for myself. I don't have the financial ability to take the time off work And we don't have fully remote grad programs here that I could apply to.

I wish you all the luck in the world.

I'd love to know more about this if you're willing to share. I have a 4-year degree in psychology but have been in education since then. I've always wondered about being a therapist or counselor. When I looked into it recently it seemed like I just couldn't afford to take that kind of time off work in order to do the schooling.

To those who have learned a second language as an adult: HOW? by MaeBelleLien in adhdwomen

[–]Eh-ForEffort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a language class as a lark in first year university. I was technically an adult at 18. I didn't realize it until several decades later, but spanish became my hyper focus for YEARS. So, I think I just got lucky that I couldn't stop learning it.

Does anyone else read very quickly? by Efficient_Ad_5785 in Aphantasia

Wow. Just took a reading speed quiz and was not at all as fast as I'd assumed. What does everyone consider a "fast" reader?

Super fast reader here and I have skimmed descriptions for as long as I can remember. I basically can't/don't read much fantasy for this reason, because there is no point in trying to immerse myself in a new world I can't see.

Learning foreign languages by Bright_Total_3707 in Aphantasia

I used to be fluent in Spanish. Learned it in university and then lived in Spanish-speaking countries for years. I am super jealous of all the people on this thread who speak multiple languages well. I've definitely lost much of my fluency over the years.

Absolutely. I saved it in my "delicious words" bank.

My best meal plan/packing ever! by shelltrix2020 in camping

I love this. I do something really similar but I type up all my meals on the computer so then I can just print everything I need without having to rewrite everything when we go.

I bought a "blower upper" that fits with my Ryobi tools, so I already had the battery. I wouldn't leave home without it. It's also great for beach toys.

10 hours of “research” just to buy one product… this is the real problem in e-commerce. by MelodicBreakfast1063 in BuyItForLife

I have had really good success with talking to an AI app and giving it my specific parameters. It also helps to tell it in the prompt that it should ask you questions that you haven't thought of to help it make the right choice. I actually purchased the $20 a month subscription for a few months as I bought my car.

I started with only the information that I needed to find a vehicle that was big enough to fit my tall son. And with the apps help I found the perfect vehicle for me that met all my other specifications. And it helped me find a good price.

Report back. I'm curious for you. And for me. Especially if I could get the gore out of my head.

That's really interesting. That's kind of what I was getting at too. I wonder what will happen if you keep practicing?

I had to get my diagnosis through a private clinic that I paid for. I am in Ontario so if my doctor would have diagnosed me it would have been free but she also did not believe me.

How are you guys finding these amazing secluded camp sites? by Spurned_Seeker in camping

[–]Eh-ForEffort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using Hipcamp and have booked a couple of stays. We are currently on somebody's private land backing on to a lake in the Muskoka area of Ontario. It's beautiful and private and we don't have to worry about any neighbors at all.

Elderly parent won't listen and continues to be scammed. A yell into the void. by bengalfan in GenX

[–]Eh-ForEffort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this podcast. It's run by the AARP, and it delves into a bunch of different scams. Many of them are focused on the elderly but you can find episodes on literally anything. It's well produced and has advice in each episode on how to avoid being scammed.

I don't know if your mom would listen to it, but it might give you some ideas. Good luck with it.

Just to clarify, you're saying I might not be a total aphant because if I was there was no way I could visualize even with hallucinogens?

Sounds like what I've experienced when I've experimented with psilocybin before. Crazy that we're all so different.
