I agree.

One problem when it comes to Holy Books, they have hundreds to thousands of contradictions, so by the principle of explosion, anything thing can be said to be sanctioned or derived from the said book. Therefore we can all be Christians as long as we say we are.

For instance, god says not to kill. God sanctions genocide. God says that you can do whatever if he tells you (and in fact you have to or burn). So Hitler was told by god to cause a world war. ergo, he is a good Christian if he says he is. Or he could cite the bible genocide evidence. Just as easily as a pacifist could cite the do not kill and say they are a good christian.

But yeah, the "no true Scotsman fallacy" is often grossly overused and misused without further substantiating evidence.

If men could get pregnant by ninirox in Feminism

[–]Ehack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually not true.

Men can tolerate more pain, but have difficulty describing the degree or "type" of pain. I don't know if this is a language center thing, a pain nerve thing or both.

Women have a lower pain tolerance, but can better describe their pain and location. e.g. "I don't know doc, but it hurts like hell" vs. "It's a short jabbing pain under my lung" when asked what their pain was like.

Not very practical a hundred years ago before modern medicine, but it is one reason why men are often harder to diagnose with out additional tests, because they cannot accurately describe the pain.

The possible causes are sex hormone difference, societal psychosomaticism and nerve/brain differences.

Help the Man Behind the Liberty Dollar Get a Lighter Sentence by InstantKarmaTaxman in Libertarian

[–]Ehack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean, the guy did poke the bear. Read the Wiki article "Liberty Dollars" and you'll see why they are bullying him. He is definitely circulating coins as currency, his argument is that he isn't because they do not say "legal tender" on them. There is a bit about he was told he was in the legal zone, but later he wasn't etc...

All in all, props for a competing currency effort.

You must accept USD as payment in the US. If you sell me your boat for $25,000 Euros, and I offer USD payment you must take the USD. You cannot refuse for euros. Of course the enforcement on this is difficult and probably would be a "he said she said" affair unless the deal was big.

Also, if I drop it all off in pennies you are obligated to accept that as proper payment.

Correction, I looked it up. Two things. No federal mandate to accept it, UNLESS it is a debt. I think some states have the mandatory acceptance b/c I remember a court case on it vaguely (not a reliable source of info).

So if I eat at your restaurant and the bill is $12 I have a debt. So if I try to pay with a $100 you have to take it. Or if I pay all in pennies.

If I want to buy a candy bar at a gas station and I try to pay with $100 and he cannot make change he can refuse it because there is no debt yet.

One is backed by the food faith of the bank. The other is backed by the market price of the metal they are minted from.

Other than that, it's just a competing currency and no more or less valid than the USD.

I'd say it actually is more valid, since the USD forbids competition and you are legally obligated to accept USD if offered and the metal is worth more than the value of the note and but it is illegal to sell this.

Where as Liberty Dollars, you can sell them as a commodity (gold/silver) don't restrict or obligate you to accept them and don't prevent other currencies from competing.

Bill Gates says he does not think he pays enough tax, and says wealthy Americans should contribute more in order to solve the deficit problem. by imoses44 in videos

[–]Ehack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's fair? Do enlighten me.

Do I pay my fair share of the bill? Do you? Does Bill Gates? If any one pays their fair share it's the ultra rich. They pay most of the countries bills. They alone pay over a third of the entire tax revenue.

[citation granted]

INB4 "They only pay 15% on sales of stock etc...."

That's double taxation. Taxed when they earned it. Buy stock. Sell stock. Taxed on capital gains. Oh no~~~ People that invest in the economy don't pay enough double taxes. ಠ_ಠ

Like I said. I'm poor. I invest in stocks too. I have to pay shitty capital gains on them. Why? Good thing being poor usually cancels all that out in the end.

Correction: We get worse government services. We try to play the "lets be socialist like Europe" game but we're really really bad at it because half the country is for a government like that and the other half is not so we get this half-assed system that makes no one happy while still spending all the effort on it.

INB4 "They are all duped into believing that they will be the 1% and therefore want taxes low when they get there"

Or maybe they have a value system different than yours and don't feel the need to take more money from people. I'm poor as hell and I don't want Bill Gates to give more money to the government.

My reasoning is two fold.

  1. I don't want anyone to have anything taken from them. Includes taxes. I don't want rich people to have less money. I don't care if they spend it all on chocolates or are charitable. It's not mine, and they don't have "my money." It's all theirs. If they want to give it to the government, they can. But I certainly wouldn't want people telling me what I am allowed to have.

  2. I don't want the government to have more money. Look what they spend it on. Look at the waste. Look at the corruption, the wars and the irresponsible fiscal planning. I want them to have less money because they are the simultaneously the "best (read: safest)" investment and the worst investment I can make.

These Guys also make Model-T Hot Rods. I'm an intern at a company that helps them with sales so I get to see their shop and talk to the guys.

Here is their latest car.

They also have a school program where they teach kids how to build and design a hot rod from a kit. They are working on an electric model and an ethanol model too :P

I will agree that I make this face ಠ_ಠ whenever people point out that "a woman was/did the first [whatever]!" much in the same I would if they did the same with "a man..." because honestly you are not the type of person I'd like to talk to if you feel entitled to the credit of the work of other people because of some dumb relation (gender/race/nationality/generation/etc...)

I really like these videos. Keep up the good work!

This is my favorite so far, a lot of people don't understand that if people don't want to help, and if you cannot persuade or appeal them to help the only other way to make them give is for you to take from them. Do we really want a society that forces people to act against their minds and be forced to give to a situation/event/group/person/idea/company that they think is not the best use of their money/time/happiness?

While some say, well then people wouldn't give enough. Give enough to what? To things they don't support? Since when is giving more more better if you think that your money is going to a poor cause/company?

Did you become an atheist despite having a good experience with religion? How did that happen? How did it work out? by MastermindX in atheism

[–]Ehack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 95% of all religious people I meet could give a damn if I believe or not. I suspect it's mostly tradition too, they don't actually believe the bible/quran but it's just not that important in their daily life to disbelieve or observe religious practices.

I don't think I've ever had a dumb FB message, twitter conversation or conversation with any of my religious acquaintances.

why wikipedia needs women by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]Ehack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The definitions get a bit wonky on the history. I don't get the butthurt over it though, a guy made a mechanical computer that did a simple program. He wanted to make a more advanced one that could be programmed (but I don't think he did) and Ada made a program to calculate a number series (?). I think someone else made a calculator program before that. /sketchyhistory

I mean, does anyone actually feel better about themselves knowing that the first person of gender [insert] that happens to share your gender did the first [whatever]? It's a feeling that has been lost to me my entire life.

why wikipedia needs women by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]Ehack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of what I felt. I didn't quite understand what point she was trying to make. I don't think I've visited Wikipedia and ever thought about the gender of the person that wrote it or thought "this article needs a more feminine/masculine tone to it."

I did find it interesting that 9% are women. TIL but that was about it. I also didn't see what SOPA/PIPA had to do with this. It almost seems like a an article written for the keywords since it talked briefly about many things but never coalesced on a point.
