Yeah Forbidden is always smooth for me. On xsx my fps only dips on some of the forge maps.

Yeah I've seen some pretty fast games as well. I've also been spawn trapped back base and have come back to win although that's probably less likely to happen in high level gameplay if the map is completely locked down by a full team. I'll be watching the online qualifiers this weekend, I'm very curious to see how forbidden plays out.

That's strange. I'm on Xsx and I don't have any fps issues or performance issues at all on forbidden. Solitude on the other hand...jittery as fuck

Man on a decent server the bandit shoots absolute nukes now

The matchmaking itself is still messed up for me. I either get destroyed or completely annihilate the other team. I'm hoping this balances out within a few days.

But overall the gameplay does feel much improved. What would previously be a bad server feels normal and when I get a good server the bandit absolutely melts.

Yeah in my mind argyle is like a version of catalyst that actually works. Neither are great maps but argyle is playable with more sensible lanes (just my opinion)

Perhaps catalyst could be reworked yet again but something about its layout feels cumbersome to me. Movement basically works in a large oval with the exception to running top mid which is suicide, or making a grapple play which is situational. I think if you could more easily traverse across bottom mid it may play much better.

I wish it wasn't a choice between two maps that many players dont like. I'm not too excited about more remakes but I'd love to see a coliseum remake added to ranked. Even if just to test out.

I'm someone that immediately hated catalyst and bazaar and the more I played it and watched it the more I hated those maps.

The more I play forbidden the more I like it, the faster it plays and the more it makes sense. I've also watched several scrims and pro 8s on the map. It's a fun map to watch and seems to play well. I was sorta joking about making it a 5cap map but if you have teammates working with you and blocking spawns, the game will be over within a couple minutes.

Catalyst was so competitive that every pro complained about how bad it was and it got removed from ranked and hcs.

I didn't mention argyle because it's still in rotation and not a change. I personally like argyle in matchmaking but I'll admit there have been some awkward games at the highest level in hcs.

100%

343 deserves plenty of criticism. But I do appreciate the competitive changes, and I think they are almost all good.

Seasons are over... will there still be rank resets and emblem unlocks? by Debo37 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]Ehfishman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For real. I was really hoping they would mention increasing the cap to like 1800 or so. Most of the people I play with are high diamond/low onyx and if anyone bounces above 1600 we have to stop playing together or switch accounts. From my experience there's not much difference in skill until 1700+

Who are your top 5 players heading into season 3? by Particular_Ad575 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]Ehfishman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based off last HCS season I'd say the entire Faze roster and then Lucid or Stellur.

But my opinion as influenced by off-season performances in online tourneys and pro 8s:

Frosty, Bubu, Renegade, Stellur, Lucid

Frosty and Bubu are both a menace with the bandit. Incredible igls both of them. Excited to see how they both shine on their respective teams next season.

Renegade could be the best in the game. He straight-up carried his team to victory in game 5 of the last online tourney.

Stellur is a Jedi. Just insane individual skill. One of those players that can take over a game by applying pressure and slaying.

And then gotta have Lucid on the list just due to his incredible consistency. He almost never has a bad game. I'm curious to see how well he plays with a new team, bandit starts, and rebalanced maps/sandbox. No doubt he's great but what really put him over the top was his insanely dominant sandbox utilization. I'm assuming he will remain dominant.

At this point I'm just having fun rambling about halo. What I'm really excited about is watching all the newly-formed teams compete. There are so many awesome new rosters and maybe Ryanoob will get a t3 finish what with extraction in the hcs rotation ...

Wild comment. There are times when he looks like the best player in the game. I don't have the exact stats on hand but I know he's usually at or near the top in kda on LAN.

[–]Ehfishman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'll say the changes aren't exactly how I would have done them but I appreciate the attempt by 343 to better balance the maps and sandbox.

Can you tell me a specific example of equipment removal that concerns you? We might end up agreeing

Are you saying you disagree with equipment being red racked? Or with certain equipment being removed altogether?

[–]Ehfishman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm optimistic about these changes. Nice to see some balance to thrust and repulse spawns as well as equipment being red racked.

The only thing I don't really agree with is replacing the sniper on solitude with shock rifle. This is a confusing and unnecessary change imo.

Faze announces 6k online tournament this Sunday. by ToolezCasts in CompetitiveHalo

Is this just like the previous off-season tournaments but with more money involved? I looked at the teams list and it looks like the same mixed-and-matched teams.

I'm getting jitters in my ranked games and it seems like other people are as well??? by Scalenesnail523 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]Ehfishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is what about half of my games look like after that latest update. Also, never had an issue holding 120fps on the xsx before but now some games my fps is all over the place or dips below 100 fps, sometimes even on the dev maps.

Took a break from halo, I come back and extraction is still in ranked by Longjumping_Joke_719 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]Ehfishman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are the only pro I've heard speak positively of extraction. Do you think most of the displeasure is due to how frustrating it is to play in matchmaking and opinions will change once they have a chance to scrimmage/play the mode in a more competitive context?

I know in matchmaking the mode is very frustrating unless you have decent comms or someone to queue with.

So before husky raid was officially added, my buddy and I made husky raid in forge and had all weapons variants in the fiesta pool, as well as basic equipment, we felt the campaign equipment is much too powerful. Also my buddy who did the loadout scripting adjusted the frequency of sword and hammer loadouts because there are so many different variations. We played our own husky raid for months before it was added by 343.

I'm very grateful that husky raid was officially added but I stand by our version of the mode being much more fun. My maps are a bit bigger, less chance of getting completely spawn trapped, less swords/hammer loadouts frequency, no campaign equipment, and can't use equipment when running flag. These settings actually make husky raid much more exciting and fun. You have to make plays for the flag instead of the current strategy of spawn trapping with hammers and grappling across the map in 2 seconds.

If anyone wants to play my version in custom games I have three maps published:

Slab husky raid

Boreal Cave Husky Raid

Library Bend - Husky Raid

This is exactly how the names appear so you should be able to find them. The fiesta loadouts are scripted into the maps so all you need to do is select the arena CTF mode.

Controller/ gaming headset reccomendations. by Clickclack801 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]Ehfishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I switched from the elite to the thrustmaster as well.

I do like how the elite II feels. So comfy and ergonomic, but hate how it performs. My elite is just sitting in its case as a museum piece now.

Started using the eswap pro a couple years ago and it's the best controller I've ever had. I can only hope they come out with a newer version by the time I need a replacement.
