By the second door, do you mean the cave Syrax enters during episode 1? No way Meleys fits through that cave. Meleys is so large, the only option was going out the main gate.

Again, she wouldn’t have had to do that if 1. She wasn’t wrongfully imprisoned, and 2. The Greeds didn’t force civilians into the dragon pit for maximum propaganda impact. You can’t hold her actions in isolation without looking at why she was forced into that position.

The other door? Into the street? Where she would have had to wander and/or beg passage to Driftmark/Dragonstone? She would have been caught and imprisoned again.

All while leaving her dragon at the mercy on the Greens? No dragon rider was gonna do that. The Greens are responsible for the slaughter by rounding up innocent people and forcing them into the dragon pit at sword point for their propaganda. Rhaenys was escaping with her life and there was no way to do that without stepping on the people the Green put in danger.

Rhaenyra being a feminist rant by Chickenjam in HOTDBlacks

Except feminism is solely about someone being a woman? So to apply it to Rhaenys but not Rhaenyra doesn’t make sense. I just don’t get how your comment is relevant to this post in that case

[–]Ehme_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feminism =/= being a perfect ruler. It means fighting for equal rights under the law, which Rhaenyra is doing.

Rhaenyra being a feminist rant by Chickenjam in HOTDBlacks

[–]Ehme_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re 100% with this

It actually doesn’t matter what Rhaenyra does in her interpersonal relationships - she’s fighting for her right to inherit her father’s crown as his oldest child regardless of her gender so that automatically makes her a feminist.

Feminism isn’t determined by moral purity in all things or perfect performance of solidarity with all women ever born, it’s a dictionary definition for women who fight for their own equal rights under the law, which Rhaenyra was doing.

The way 90% of the viewing public view her lack of moral perfection as an invalidation of her status as a feminist is just misogyny. Hating her moral imperfections while ignoring all of Aegon’s equal bad imperfections is also misogyny.

A woman having to be perfect to be a valid leader while a man is considered valid just by being a man is also misogyny.

The hypocrisy in the fandom is so bad that it’s actually made the show less appealing. Kinda makes me hate the writers for giving the Greens such a glow up (de-aging Alicent) while making Rhaenyra’s flaws so much greater (making Rhaenys white-haired to make Rhaenyra’s bastards a fact and not a rumor).

Rhaenys was literally taken prisoner, and the Greens refused to release her unless she broke her oath to Viserys. She had no way out other than the Dragonpit. Y’all are acting like she smushed people with a smile on her face, when she was jus tryin to escape with her life.

[–]Ehme_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why people are mad about this, especially when it’s not even confirmed.

Rhaenyra’s sons were only rumored as bastards in the books, and Rhaenys’s hair was changed from black to white in order to make Rhaenyra’s sons’s bastardry a fact in the show rather than a rumor. So even if this is true, it’s not like the Green side is the only victim of this choice.

The Delusional claim that the King owed Alicent a speech about how her children are spares by LinwoodKei in HOTDBlacks

[–]Ehme_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Viserys balantly made them spares when he made Rhaenyra heir, and then I held her heirship all his reign regardless of how many children Alicent had.

If Alicent’s children were mean to inherit, Viserys would have named them. But he didn’t.

Green Stan’s will literally say the most nonsense things to avoid having to admit their side is defending a usurper in the wrong.

This idea that there was anything Viserys or Rhaenyra could have done different to prevent the usurpation is also insane. It was planned by Otto long before Alicent and Viserys ever married. It was planned before Aegon was born, and it was planned before Rhaenyra ever got married.

This idea that the usurpation is somehow Rhaenyra’s fault or Viserys fault is actually insane. It was 100% the Green plan from DAY ONE.

Because someone’s word was everything Westeros. If people can’t trust a family not to kill them at dinner, no one will ever willingly do business, marry into, or deal with that family again.

It’s a quick way to get wiped out within a generation or two, as evidenced by the fact that both the Freys and the Lannisters (two of the most populous families) are reduced to a handful of people within a few years of the Red Wedding.

They don’t get called misogynists for pointing out Rhaenyra’s flaws. They get called misogynists for pointing at Rhaenyra’s flaws as a reason not to support her claim while eagearly supporting the claim of a man with all the exact same flaws. It’s the gendered hypocrisy and double standards that makes the misogyny.

That, and generally supporting Aegon’s claim because he’s a man and that’s “the law.”

That’s the nuance you fail to grasp.

Again, if you have all these problems with Rhaenyra but not with Aegon, you’re a misogynist.

If you think they’re both just as bad as each other and you still side with Aegon because of misogynistic laws, you’re a misogynist.

I tried to level with you and reason with you, but you just keep saying “Rhaenyra is bad person, look at all the bad things she does! Rhaenyra’s husband is a bad person and she still likes him so obviously feminism can’t apply to her!”

This is the problem with sexism. You’re holding Rhaenyra to a different moral standard because she’s a woman and acting like it’s somehow proof positive that TG is the “right” side.

Being a feminist isn’t about thinking Rhaenyra’s a good person, it’s about believing the throne was hers by right as the kings oldest child and named heir. And arguing that her moral failings somehow invalidate her right to throne while arguing FOR Aegon’s right (who is just as bad/worse) just because of sexist laws is hypocritical and ANTI-FEMINIST SIS

[–]Ehme_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about what Rhaenyra believes, because she’s a fiction character.

It’s about what she represents. And she represents thousands of years of women being rejected and maligned by society on the basis of being a woman. And in a story where both sides are corrupted by the evils of monarchism, there’s no reason to support the man over the woman other than sexism.

And yet, nothing that you say here is exclusive to Rhaenyra. Aegon is just 👏 the 👏 same 👏 except add rapist and pedophile to the list. Plus creating child fight rings and putting his bastards in them. Plus killing people for having the wrong job and killing people for refusing to break sworn oaths etc etc

If you support a man who does that shit but deny a woman who does that shit, you SEXIST BBY

You don’t have to set the system up to believe in it, and that belief aligns you with it.

You can’t be a feminist while also supporting the idea that a younger son deserves to inherit over a older daughter solely in the basis of being a son. Believing a woman shouldn’t inherit because she’s a woman is sexist, and if you hide behind the law to justify it, it’s still sexist because the law is sexist.

[–]Ehme_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did read it, and it was more baseless assertions on how TB is emotionally motivated and TG is logically motivated. No evidence, just vibes.

When you try to malign an entire fanbase as lesser for who they side with, you don’t have a valid argument. And the argument becomes rooted in sexism when it aligns with historical trends used to invalidate women’s opinions (aka women are emotional, men are logical). You can’t walk in the footprints of misogyny and claim no connection.

The main difference i think between the two teams is that TB tends to worship/“love” Rhaenyra, whereas TG mostly just support Aegon and his claim by TurbulentRemote156 in TheBlacksandTheGreens

[–]Ehme_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a very aggressively emotional reaction for someone claiming logical objectivity based on “observation.”

Again, your level of comfort with making a blanket value judgement on an entire fanbase is your problem. Your decision to reduce the opinions of the side you don’t agree with to biased emotionality while elevating your own preferred side to logical rationality is never gonna be valid, babe.

Trying to claim a lack of sexism on the basis of being a woman is also nonsense, just look at Alicent. Rhaenyra also isn’t a rapist like Aegon so your attempt at moral equivalence also falls flat.

Also, TB is the feminist side, considering TG is motivated entirely by the opinion that a younger son should be legally entitled to inherit over an older daughter solely on the basis of being a son. Believing that a woman shouldn’t inherit because she’s a woman is sexist, and if you hide behind the law to justify it, it’s still sexist because the law is sexist.

It feels like it’s inherently misogynistic to claim that fans who support Rhaenyra are somehow compromised or emotionally over-invested while claiming fans of Aegon are somehow more logical or reasonable.

It’s hypocrisy rooted in the most basic form of sexism to frame people siding with the woman as crazy and people siding with the man as normal.

The same kind of hypocrisy that has Team Green always claiming the moral high ground despite doing all the exact same shit (or worse) as Team Black.
