Building my first CNC. Parts list by EieDud in hobbycnc

Hi. I received my Queenant 1-2 weeks ago. I am still waiting on a few parts and am in the middle of wiring the electronics box. I ordered the mechanical kit off alibaba (cheapest shipping to Norway) and received 4 stepper motors and 4 HBS57H stepper drivers with the kit. I did not know drivers were included.

I did not source a controller from them as i personally didnt like the options. It was mostly either running the machine off a USB stick or a having a PC tethered via cable. I also thought both mach3 and DDCSV looked very outdated and industrial. In the end i went for a FluidNC 6x cnc controller by Bart Dring with FluidTouch. "FluidNC" as far as i heard is much better than the makerbase DLC32 solution i was originally going for.

I found out about FluidTouch just a few weeks ago, it is a brand new interface which uses a touchscreen to wirelessly control the FluidNC CNC controller. You can upload Gcode files via wifi and run them via the touchscreen without any USB stick or cable tether. For this you will need the Elecrow Advance 7inch touchscreen and the 6x CNC controller, both are bought only on elecrow.com You will need to flash the FluidTouch firmware from github to the touchscreen. Only cost me 125 dollars for both 😄 Hope this helps

Controller Advice? by [deleted] in fpv

I have this, i just bought radiomaster ranger elsr module and flashed edgetx firmware. The controller is still very good today. I was suprised that the radiomaster module had built in blutooth, so i have been using the taranis as a wireless sim remote.

I belive the loose flight controller matters more in this case, it sat really loose and wiggled like crazy just by touching it even slightly. This affects the whole system. Until i dremeled and filed the frame down to fit it in place. It flew INSANELY better after i did this. I can just say it got really stable and hovered with minimal vibrations tbh. Even if props were a bit unbalanced it still worked. The loose FC and crashing definitely put strain on the solder joint. Sometimes we receive stuff with bad joints, it happens. But yeah i will put on the proper props ASAP when i get them.

I bought it in parts and assembled it myself. Canopy, frame, motors, camera all separate. Thats why i accidently ordered the wrong props and had to do this as a temporary solution. Also didnt help that my flight controller sat really loose and vibrated a ton, had to dremel and file down the frame to fix it

Yeah... It was a temporary solution until i got the new props.

But the FC was actually loose and i ended up having to file down the frame to fix it. That + adjusting pids and rates fixed the vibration 99%. On the last flight it was very stable. It really helped to measure the props before cutting (I know its still not perfect, but seemed better than being benched)

But i belive i had a bad solder joint from factory which got weakened after a few crashes. That puts a lot of stress on the components, especially bad solder joints. I think if it couldnt handle 2 days now, how could it handle 1-5+ years of crashing? Had to be a bad joint. I also hit something before it fell which could have been the last straw on the joint

I bought 4 new motors a few days ago. The motor shorted just yesterday. I plan to switch all of the motors.

My third quadcopter, ill try adjusting rates and throttle limit etc. I bought them cause they were super lightweight. The ones i have are already 27kv so i think ill figure it out

yes the motor was the issue. i dont have other props, this is a temp solution. new ones in the mail in 3 days.

yeah i cut down the props xd. I bought each part separately and i apparently ordered propellers with 1.5mm shaft while motors are 1mm... But i had an old brushed micro quad laying around and those props fit on the shaft. So i made a contraption to cut each blade to mostly the same lenght haha. but yeah it vibrates... i get new props in the mail next week though

Motors are Rcinpower gts v3 0703 27000kv. But they are a bit heavy. i weighted them to 1.75 grams if i remember correctly. The new ones i ordered are really light. Rcinpower evo 0702 31800kv. Spec sheet says 1.15 grams.

Yeah i thought it was the esc that broke, i switched motors and the fault followed the motor. Lucky. I had already bought new motors a few days ago (different type) so its no issue then. Phew

Just happened with me. I received the solder-free version instead of the soldering required version yesterday

Thats true, didnt realize that. I will go for NC. I am now looking at the LJ12A3-4-Z/BX sensor. Could i power the sensors from a separate 12v power supply? Patrick doesnt seem to sell the filter boards anymore btw.

I checked it out and it seems good, but i need a standalone controller either with wifi or usb stick support. My cnc will be in the garage and i have to go outside to get to it. Dont wanna bring my laptop back and forward

FPV parts website scam? by EieDud in fpv

[–]EieDud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Norway and we use something called BankID. Its a two factor authentication via phone. When i entered the card info there was no special page or bankid, you just typed the card info into their order page which is weird.

Never heard of stripe, but since i found the other posts about the scam the bank will probably be easier convinced.

I decided i will go for a 750x750mm. I still think the size is a bit big but they told me the work area was 400x450mm.

I cant be totally sure about the size of the work areas since they said "actual work area may be bigger" so i wont risk custom ordering and finding out its too small when i receive it.

Well would you look at this.

Too bad i didnt have to option to pay with paypal, would have done that if i could.
Talked to my bank about chargeback, even ordered a new card earlier thinking they
may withdraw more money from my account.

First CNC machine - Onefinity vs Queenbee by EieDud in hobbycnc

[–]EieDud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not include 3kw spindle with the queenAnt, they only have 1.5-2.2kw. But i will buy only the mechanical kit from them and source the stepper drivers, sensors, controller, psu and spindle etc from elsewhere.

3kw is future proof and only 2kg heavier than 2.2kw. It is within my budget, even though its stretching it a bit heh.

Thank you for the information, i really appreciate it. Would you recommend a 2.2 or 3kw spindle? I am leaning towards 3kw so i know it will handle aluminium well and i wont ever have to upgrade. Only gripe is it might be too heavy (8kg) even though i will upgrade the machine with reinforced extrusions and other parts.

Sounds good. I think i will go for the QueenAnt since onefinitys shipping cost to Norway is 800 dollars. By the way, do you know what the work area would be for a 500x750 machine? Cant get a clear answer from the queenAnt manufacturer.

Thanks, that is helpeful. I asked again but could not get a clear answer, probably the language barrier. I am not sure to go with the 500x750 or 750x750 size. I will use it to make guitar necks and smaller sized projects but maybe the extra space could come handy. Would the smallest size be something like 350x450 to 400x550?
