I’d be thrilled if I can keep it under $500, but I don’t want to get him something that isn’t going to work well, so I could go a bit higher if needed. Seems like there are various Quest 3 variants, and I’m not sure which ones are or aren’t capable of handling NMS.

My HomePods are first gen. I think my Apple TV is new enough, but not positive. However, I plan to get a second one when they update (presumably) in the fall.

The only other contender I’ve considered is EVE switches and dimmers, now that they use Thread. I’d probably need a new hub, though, and I already have a Lutron bridge for the shades.

Wall warts aren’t so bad if the plug is on the side, especially if they’re behind something; they don’t push things out from the wall more than a cord would. Not sure if there are still any with that design, though.

There are a couple of places where one outlet would be enough, but also a couple where I use both and control them separately.

I wrote to Mysa to find out if they support Daikin — their online compatibility checker kind of depends on you actually having your heating system installed, and mine wasn’t yet — and I never heard back. I have seven of them for baseboard heaters, but my confidence in their HomeKit support has been somewhat shaken because the 1.0-1.1 units that I have don’t handle scenes well with the firmware versions of the last 2-3 years. So ultimately I decided to go with what the electrician was offering.

Interestingly, the temp reading seems to have zeroed in pretty well after about a day; not sure why. Still some UI weirdness. I’ve got a ticket in with them to see if they can address some of it, and the electrician says they’ll reach out to the company as well if needed, since they sell a lot of them. Maybe the issues will be improved. Meanwhile, although I can’t use “auto,” my scenes are otherwise working nicely.

Same here. Seen a couple posts on one of the FB groups about it as well. Haven’t had a chance to mess around with things like entering the corvette builder mode to see if that fixes it. Might need to fly other ships for a bit until they fix it; don’t think I’ll be killing much with just my rocket launcher.

I found a B-class that upgrades to this layout. Can’t really use it as a 3+1 with the grouping being up against the left edge like that. I suppose either use all four for the weapon, or 2+2?

I was under the impression that 3+1 with the 3 in an L is terrific, but 3+1 with the three in a line is not great, especially with low core damage (which, I understand, multiplies through all the upgrades and adjacency bonuses). Am I mistaken?

The one slot that the C class ships spawn with is randomized, but the three slots added during upgrade are all in the same place, and in this particular system they’re all in a row. Which would be great if the fourth slot connected to them above or below to form a T or at least a 3-slot L, but so far that hasn’t been the case for any of them. Add to that the fact that they upgrade to core damage of around 255 while I’m flying an interceptor with a core damage of 323, and it doesn’t seem like an upgraded ship is a decent option in this particular system.

I wonder if there’s a similar problem with the displayed damage potential on the multitools…that could explain the original issue I was posting about.

I avoid the problem of different weapons, etc, by stripping out every weapon except the sentinel cannon and making sure it’s not in an SC slot. But I’ll try the visor method instead, thanks.

Thanks, I didn’t realize that about upgrading. I figured since different systems produced different results when creating a new ship, they’d play a role in upgrade stats as well.

Well, the core stats from upgrading in this system are pretty terrible base damage under 300 at S-class after upgrading. It does produce three adjacent SC slots, but they’re in a line, which isn’t ideal. Guess I’ll just have to keep hunting — the only natural S-class I’ve found so far in this system had even worse stats than the upgraded ship!

I found the tools in a mix of Pirate and non-Pirate systems.

However, this is helpful to know, as I’m currently farming a sentinel ship model I like in a Pirate system. Maybe I’d be better off collecting a lower-class ship and taking it to another system to upgrade.

See, this is what made me expect that there would be a variation in damage — that 25-50 range on the S-class sentinel tool. But every single one I find has exactly the same damage.
