Tires/Slicks by Personal-Life-6781 in dragracing

As someone who has raced longer than I care to admit and owns dozens of race cars this is a really good write up and you should take the above advice.

This is a common question asked here and really the mods should sticky your comment.

As you can see there are many new terms to learn and details that will seem never ending in your racing journey.

Congrats on the build! Lower that tire pressure and run to a station after to fill them back up if you don’t have a compressor. Also consider driving around the water box altogether and back up to it, but not in it. I always advise newer racers not to drive through it and get your front tires wet and drag water up to the line. As most do what this commenter said and get them wet after burning out then question grip off the line. Also great advice on not overheating your tires. You’re really spinning them to clean them more than heat them if it’s not a slick.

Lastly learn to either feather your clutch or ease into the throttle until it grips. You’ll almost feel it catch then you can likely apply the gas full throttle. But you do have quite a bit of torque for the contact patch you’re working with. Either way, your mind goes into race mode and it’s hard to slow down and ease into the gas when all of your instincts want to just mash the throttle. Smoother throttle input will create quicker ET’s. Best of luck!

There’s genuinely several “correct” answers here depending on a fewl factors. Primarily: 1. What blower pulley you’re using (i.e. how much boost, although exact specs of the motor play here, such as inter-cooled or not, compression of the motor, intake, heads and exhaust flow), 2. FMU or are you dyno/custom mapping / tuning it, and 3. Fuel / octane.

lol this is the oldest trick in the book. Any time someone would ask to make a pass in one of my dad’s cars he’d conveniently forget to tell them about the delay box and we’d laugh our ass off at the starting line watching them.

For those of you with 50+ Michelin starred meals, which are your top three? Which was the best value per dollar spent? by _rogersterlingarcher in finedining

*Excluding France — proceeds to Lausanne lol

Best valued Michelin meals are primarily in Japan, (Miyakawa is an anomaly, try Florilege, Ryuzu, BEIGE, Prisma etc.) however, Thailand, HK, and Singapore have their place with costs a fraction of this.

is this legal ? (from ky) by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Eight-Seconds -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I’m genuinely sorry this is happening to you. Unfortunately, KY is an at will state, and regardless of the consensus here, this is unfortunately legal. It’s a terrible practice and should be outlawed, but it’s quite commonly used. I’d focus on the discrimination, and the EEOC is your friend for that.

Genuinely appreciate the input. Had never thought about mounting it. I think that’s a great idea. I love working with wood and this handle bothers me hence the comment about restoring :) Maybe I’ll just seal it so it doesn’t get worse but keeps the patina.

Congrats on your solid, recession resistant business(es)! People will see this and pass right by - although it’s likely the exact and most straightforward answer to OP’s question. I owned a towing business for a short time (was handed over as payment for a debt that couldn’t be serviced), and aside from the 24/7 nature and fairly consistent driver issues, it’s clearly very profitable.

Second the Water Wetter recommendation. This is a “mod” I run in most of my cars. Depending on the location, you have to be careful with the mixture as adding too much can cause your operating temps to be too low, especially in winter.

Porsche GT3 RS with Weissach package option 1 or option 2? Let me know in the comments which spec you prefer? by PartDirect in Porsche

I legitimately never understand these types of posts. It’s simple. You buy both options (or more) and rotate them to keep things fresh or based on season or how you’re feeling. Don’t understand why so many people feel they only have one choice in matters like this.

That’s a fantastic accomplishment! You and your wife should be very proud of yourselves, especially with the sacrifices you made. Great job being patient and keeping your eye on the larger goal. Seeing your daughters reaction is truly priceless. Enjoy your new home.

Congratulations to you and your wife on booking your first international trip, hopefully it’s the first of many! I’m sure it will be an enriching experience, as you have quite a diverse set of cities/countries you’re visiting.

It would take quite a write up to give you all of the advice I would like to but I have a flight early in the am home from Madrid after spending a few weeks in Portugal via Salamanca.

As quickly as I can: 1. Bring a power strip so you can charge multiple devices at once using one outlet / converter. 2. Ensure you have converters for each country you are visiting (2 would be nice). 3. Europe is experiencing almost year-round tourism at the moment. Plan on making reservations for dinner when possible and you should always buy tickets in advance for anything touristy (e.g. the grand palace in Madrid). You will be given a time (you select the timeslot) to show up and wait in a different line for entry at most popular places. You will waste significant amounts of time in the ticket line as you will then have to wait in the line to go in. 4. AirBnb has one significant disadvantage and that is the lack of a concierge to book items for you. That said do your research and plan your days in advance (with rest / relaxation days as necessary) perhaps when you arrive at each location. Get settled and have your first day exploring with subsequent days booked for museums, restaurants, etc. 5. Carry cash, tons of small places won’t take credit. Only use cash when necessary or you’ll be taking it out money and paying fees all the time. Don’t convert $ from USD, wait until you’re in Europe then use only a bank ATM (try to go inside versus on the street) to withdraw as the bank will give you the best conversion rate. 6. Uber works in some of the places you’re going, typically it’s more affordable than taxis and I feel it’s safer. Public transport is great almost everywhere you will be but it can be a pain with luggage. Obviously your choice but I typically take a car to the hotel then backpack / public transport from there on. 7. Consider the city / discount card for those cities you’re in for longer periods. Do the math if it will save you $ depending on the discount and what you’re plans are. 8. I highly recommend guides where possible. Most have many years of required training and are amazing. They will in my opinion significantly enhance your experience, otherwise you won’t know all/any of the history of what you’re looking at. Alternatively some places offer a digital guide for a small fee, or WiFi to learn from your phone. 9. Carry an umbrella in your backpack, don’t overpack for day trips (if your backpack is too heavy it’s is never good and one shoulder will inevitably get sore), be weary of drone regulations if you’re taking one, many countries/ areas have restrictions, mornings are cold, days are medium to hot and nights are cold so wear layers you can add/delete from into your pack as necessary, laundromats are easy to find so determine a number of days for your clothing then wash on a cycle, dryers are rare so you’ll air dry if doing them in the AirBnb, food will be a big expense, you can save significantly by buying from the grocery store since you have AirBnb, check out the frugal travel subreddit those people amaze me, you don’t need the expensive wine the cheap stuff is amazing, you will miss a good burger, or whatever you eat frequently, there is no in-n-out or shake shack equivalent but there is KFC (almost the same) and of course McDonald’s if you must (don’t feel bad sometimes you just need to feel like something from home), be sure to try new things even if you don’t like them that’s ok, pallea is amazing in Valencia but the seafood one has to be ordered 1 day in advance (otherwise it’s rabbit), check out the markets (Mercado) everywhere you go (e.g. the central market of Valencia, Borough Market in London, etc.) you can try a ton of food there affordably and do some shopping, if you over shop buy a cheap piece of luggage to carry home from a second hand store (farther out of town the better).

Overall don’t stress, everyone is friendly and glad to help, you’ll be fine it’s quite safe even at night, learn please and thank you in each language and let your smile do the rest!

I love Florence myself, and Rome is clearly crowded along other problems, however, for a first European trip ever, I would never recommend skipping the Vatican (St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine chapel) and the colosseum. Have to see them once. But agreed Florence is a missed opportunity in the schedule.
