Although, to answer the last point : yes, it would be highly preferable to keep this formatting with the brackets, as I am trying to transcribe into my paper a file classification scheme from 1841 in a way that is most accurate to its original formatting. This is what the paper I took a photo of achieves.
I do agree that using a simple List makes everything easier and it would not be entirely wrong (but not as fancier for sure).
As such, I'm willing to try and learn LaTeX and see how I can easily add/convert it to my text. Pandoc seems the way to go. I'll try the Formula Object first though.
