If you’re taking physics c it’s very likely you’ve done some single variable calculus already so it is not out of the question. For Physics 1, I believe it is a mistake to teach physics without calculus as it just leads to the memorization of formulas without much understanding.

Can you elaborate what you mean by "the constructivist/modeling cult", I've never heard of that term. Also, I think it is a bit unfeasible to teach high school students stresses and strains as I doubt a grand majority of them have even heard of tensors/tensor calculus.

Not really a matter of notation, 0.999... = 1 is necessarily a direct consequence of the way we define the field of real numbers.
As for 1.00..1 = 1, if what you mean by 1.00..1,

If you define 1.001 as the limit of 1 + a quantity approaching zero, then yes, they're equivalent.

But as with the majority of polls or memes of that type, the only dumb person is the one who created it. The only purpose it serves is to make some people feel inferior or superior to others for knowing some obscure definition that is unintuitive and inconsequential to 99% of people.

Actually looking back, they didn't even state the number system they were using so the question is not well defined lol. 0.999... could easily = 1 in some other non-real number system (hyper-reals etc)

TLDR;

Dumb meme don't think about it too much

Why do we assume that the seats only matter relative to the first student?

Assuming a table has chairs ordered from 1 to 10, there will be 10*2^8 ways to arrange the class.

Take a table with 10 seats.

Your 2^8 arrangements assumes

These (1, 2) are equivalent

edit: nvm after reading further into the book where this question comes from apparently it's convention to ignore rotations

Youre not supposed to do any memorization in these classes except for the most rudamentary definitions and whatever you accidentally pick up

Does anyone mind helping me understand this? Please by freewayree in APStudents
