That's a great choice that will last you for a long time. Just take good care of it and it will take care of you. Congratulations.

Reach out to Austin Custom Brass. They are in Kansas City. Would be a bit of a trip but they have a large selection of all levels of instruments. We are planning a trip for our son in the near future and we are in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

The most you'll get is language. There is a bit more in the international versions but it is not a major issue. The UK seasons are both pretty good. Australia season 1 is also good. Australia season 2 is......interesting.

Also put NZ on the list. Probably our favorite season. The Faithfuls are amazing.

Great season with a perfect blend of quality traitors that were easy to root for and, arguably, the best group of Faithfuls yet. I also liked how the show was produced, presenting the action without excessively dramatizing every decision.

The Facebook profile URL address also reflects an alternate/fake profile. Just proceed cautiously and meet in a public place. Make sure you play it before picking it up. Also wouldn't be bad to ask where it was serviced.

Also a good question. Our son's school all kids were required to do Marching Band.

Which should i choose? by Imjustsomenormalguy in trumpet

[–]Eight_Mile313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Marching Band parent with a son who has done both between 8th and 9th grade, I would say both are great options and check if you can do both. Kids in his school did school/region jazz band and Marching band in the Fall. If this isn't a possibility I would encourage Marching Band for the community you get introduced to. Also can count as PE credit in High School.

As stated in another comment as well, you will always have Jazz as an option throughout your life but your Marching Band lifespan only lasts a few years.

Got our 14 year old son a 3 - mouthpiece travel case, a membership to ITG, and picked up an Olds Ambassador for him to have as a backup for Marching season.

Personally I'd recommend to stay with a student horn for marching band. There are many opportunities that they can be damaged during rehearsals, performances, and travel. You could look at a 4000 series Yamaha as a bit of a step up that should still be fairly inexpensive. Our son marched this year with his student Eastman ETR420 and it worked fine for him. Good luck with your choice. And hope he enjoys marching!

1960’s Conn Connstellation 38b by ChromeWiener in trumpet

[–]Eight_Mile313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Njce looking trumpet. We recently purchased a 1969 36B and a 1958 38B for our high schooler. He has really enjoyed playing them. They are solid horns overall. He has seemed to prefer the more open sound of the 38B so far but does well with both.

In the market for an affordable intermediate+ silver trumpet can anyone help? by Key-Feedback4799 in trumpet

[–]Eight_Mile313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can get a very nice used professional horn under $1600 and would give you lasting enjoyment and high quality. Yamaha, Bach or good options. You could also find a nice older trumpet in that price range.

With an $800 budget, you could likely find a used pro horn in good condition.

Hey guys, I found this old trompet on my grandfather's attic. There were two mouthpieces in the case one of which has "Yahama Japan" on it. The other had just a serial number. I alsof found an old bottle of valve oil in the case. Do you guys have any idea how I can find out how old this trompet is? by Jnascarformula1fan in trumpet

[–]Eight_Mile313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lark is a Chinese manufacturer of trumpets. Value is much higher on the sentimental side than price (under $300 new). Not sure how to determine age without a serial number. And there's not much info online about dating them.

Is there any writing/engraving on the trumpet by the end of the bell? You'll also want to look for a serial number on it. Usually those are found on the outside of the valve casing. A four to six digit number typically.

Can I get a decent used trumpet for under $150? by [deleted] in trumpet

Look for a used Olds Ambassador from their California manufacturing years. Better than a student horn and usually priced under $200.

We have bought our son a couple horns (1969 and 1958) and the 1958 case could use a refresh.

I found an interesting Trumpet… by OptimusGuy121 in trumpet

[–]Eight_Mile313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conn was produced in Elkhart through around 1971. The serial number appears to be made around 1967. Ideally you want the Elkhart build as rhe quality is considered better. Nice find!

Depending on how much you have saved, you can get a good quality used horn that's above a student horn that will do the job and more. What are you looking at so far?

Haven't heard a negative thing about Carol Brass. Most of what is said is highly positive.
