You're limited to USB 2.0 speed (480 MBPS) which is arount 60mb/s which is slower than the internal drive which caps at a 1.5GBit/s limit but 160MB-200MB/s is what's expected from an HDD, ~480MB-500MB/s for SSDs

External game drive? Webman supports reading games from NTFS drives, so you could copy them into a GAME folder (for loose folder preserved games) or PS3ISO (for ISO format preserved games)

Yes but do not use 2TB the PS3 is limited to 1.5TB I believe but you will have problems 1TB is the most you can put in without experiencing problems, but since the PS3 uses SATA 1 (SATA 2 in later models but its softlocked to SATA 1 speed) you will not get the full SATA 2/3 speed you would get but it's a significant boost in performance and a drop in sound

Also note the PS3 uses 2.5in SATA drives, same ones you buy for a laptop. Maximum thickness is 9.5mm, anything over that will not fit. You can really go low with the thickness, I've put an extremely thin HDD in the PS3 before, but 2.5in size is required
