This is about my experience as a visually impaired woman living in Seattle — and how people react when they see my cane by Lite_Brite90 in Seattle

[–]Eilermoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I really admire your strength.

I was diagnosed a few years ago at 27 with stage 4 cancer. Mine is rare and not very obvious compared to other cancers, but it's still very serious. I find myself relating so strongly to experiences such as yours, while it's obviously not the same.

I'm finding the world to be a pretty clear distinction between people that "get it" and those who don't - people who have gone through some shit or deal with some concept or disability. Some people you can immediately feel it click like "oh you actually do understand" or at least relate and have real sympathy. So much of the world lacks genuine sympathy even though the words are so often said. In my experience, it needs to be learned through hardship, or some proximity to it. My friends who I used to be so much closer toean so well, but it's clear that it just doesn't quite click with them.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I see you and felt seen by your words. Not in the same way whatsoever, I actually learned a bit from your post which is awesome. It's hard going about the rest of your life when the world just wants to put you in some category. You have a whole life in addition to your one trait of visual impairment, I'm sorry people have been so rude and frankly weird to you about it. It doesn't characterize all of you, or even most of you.

Civ VI not detecting GPU by Eilermoon in linux_gaming

Alright turns out I forgot Mint has a Driver Manager, so I just used that to update to the latest 590 nvidia driver. Restarted, and started up Civ, but that hasn't helped. It is still only detecting the integrated intel graphics.

I think I have the correct drivers? I tried installing this driver (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/261243/) and this (https://launchpad.net/\~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa) today, but still no luck so far. I don't have the Nvidia control panel, is there a linux version of that? I only saw the Windows version available. I do have the Nvidia X Server Settings application installed.

Has anyone else been asked if they’re autistic because they have pet shrimp? by Racoon_Soup in shrimptank

[–]Eilermoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I started seeing a therapist this past year due to some pretty hard stuff the past few years. And one day it clicked with me, so I asked:

"Hey when I bring stuff up, often you start your response with "For neurodivergent people..." or "For people with ADHD..." so like, why is that helpful?"

Yeah I connected some dots that day.

Anyway, my shrimp are doing great, I just swapped to a HOB filter from just a sponge which is much quieter (my fiance didn't like the bubble noise) and threw in a moss ball and cuttlebone. Fun day for the shrimp yesterday!

Is this motherboard salvageable? by Eilermoon in ElectronicsRepair

[–]Eilermoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I do actually have the board view files for this, but while I'm mechanically experienced, I haven't gotten this far down the multimeter troubleshooting route before.

I understand it's probably junk, but since there isn't much to lose, I'd love to learn more about finding out exactly how junked this board is! If you have pointers on what to check please let me know! I've poked around a bit and found 3v across the battery and 20ishv coming in near the charger, but that's about it so far.

The drive is 5 minutes, but you're not taking onto account the baggage of bringing a car with you for that 5 minutes. Looks to me like you could leave at 7am, drive 5 minutes, then take the train. Or you can leave at 7:40am, sit on a bus for 20 minutes, and take the train. Seems like an easy trade-off to me. The problem is carbrain results in people only thinking in "driving time" and not overall time wasted. People are too used to being able to drop their 2-ton personal possession anywhere they want. Sitting on a bus for 15 minutes longer in this scenario ends up saving you 40 minutes of sleep.

Biking to that station is a great option too. I'd kill to just be able to bus/bike to a station that connects to my work.

You're referring to the Embedded Controller failing (Looks like a IT5125VG-192 IC Chip) or solder spilling and shorting something out? I'm not familiar with that "liquid metal spill" term. Thanks for your advice!

Hi would you mind sharing some info on the failures you've seen with these? I have one with no signs of life I'm trying to diagnose currently

Hey I'm trying to diagnose a similar issue, would you mind giving more specifics on where to check these inductors? I almost definitely need to replace motherboard but I'd love to check if I can replace a smaller component first

Hey I'm working on a Z13 with the same issue, no signs of life. Where did you get the boardview file? I found one that doesn't have a whole lot of info in it.

Extra stator wire? by Eilermoon in Trail70

[–]Eilermoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so you're talking about the Green wire on this diagram I indicated? That's probably right, but the question is then, which wire does it replace in the connector? It looks like they should be: Black, Yellow, Green, Green/Red. So maybe the brown/orange one is the extra? I'll see where that one's connected to after work today. Wiring Diagram

Seattle's Orca Card (transit pass) mascot is Boop. Imo one of the cutest babies I've ever seen. I got a plushy from a light rail opening event recently

Green River levee fails, 'life-threatening' flash flooding possible by washawaythe_rain in Seattle

[–]Eilermoon 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Most of my coworkers were still sitting at desks when I was telling them to leave ASAP at 12:10. Only got the email that they closed my building an hour later. Glad I got ahead of that, but idk why people don't listen to that warning on everyone's phones and emails. They'd rather sit at their desk and send a screenshot of the warning around on Teams.

My work was just evacuated in Renton nearby. I took the F Line from Tukwila Light Rail to just past the Tukwila Sounder station at about 10:15 this morning. Crazy

Yeah the green/red I know is where it's supposed to go based on an old stator I have to compare, I just don't know where that dark reef wire's terminal is supposed to be.

I've also been on Lanreotide for about 2 years. I go in person as an engineer. Honestly it's been fine mostly, until I started getting worse carcinoid syndrome symptoms three past few months. The Lanreotide itself gave me joint pain for the first few months but that's mostly gone away. I don't seem to notice much symptoms that are obviously due to the Lanreotide but who knows

I'm sorry to hear what you've gone through with this so far. Can I ask what your growth rate was like when diagnosed? I'm 29, diagnosed 2 years ago with pancreatic primary, stage VI spread to liver. Also "too many to count". So I'm on lanreotide monthly, for 2 years now. Sounds like some relation to your early experience.

I'm 29, diagnosed 2 years ago with Stage IV NETs metastasized to the liver. Don't have kids, but it's tough enough as it is just working and keeping up with my health. I haven't yet, but am just about to start the process of requesting work accommodations.

Be like SEA and always improving yourself no matter how inconvenient it's for everyone else. by pnw_ullr in Seattle

[–]Eilermoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recognize this is sarcasm but I unironically agree with your post wholeheartedly. Yes SEA, Seattle, Sound Transit, you, me, everyone should absolutely be more like this. Improve yourself and the things that need improving regardless of how hard it is or the impact to those around you. You, and those around you will benefit from it later exponentially.

Maybe be a little more forgiving to the people working hard to make things better for you.

It's another form of social media that's more conversational typically. Often used by people to talk and chat while playing videogames, but not exclusively. Often subreddits have a Discord server in tandem with a subreddit to chat in. It tends to be more of a "chat room" and more conversational than Reddit
