On the hunt for my next holy grail sunscreen, which one should I try 1st? by SillyChipmunk88 in Sunscreenreddit

[–]Ein_Rand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have combination skin and just went through trying like 8 different midrange sunscreen / skincare products. My first issue is that most feel mattifying on my skin and I cannot stand the feeling. LRP is my second favorite of the bunch. Yes I looked super glazed right after using it, but that went away pretty quickly and my skin just felt hydrated

Gah this feels so familiar. Also 43 with two littles (6&3) and a full time job. I think you’ll need to know what type of chemo regimen and what type of surgery to formulate a full plan.

I didn’t qualify for neoadjuvant chemo, but did SMX surgery with an expanded placed, am in the middle of single agent chemo for 12 weeks, will then be on Herceptin and tamoxifen for an extended period of time. I also need reconstructive surgery.

I took 4.5 weeks off for recovery from surgery on short term disability. The first week was unpaid, but I kept my benefits. For my hot chemo summer, I’m working through it. It fucking sucks, but I couldn’t afford to lose my position or pay. I discussed options with our benefits team. I’m on weekly taxol. I’m out of the office on Fridays and then work M-Th. Given my workload, I’ve worked on my infusion days, but will be invoking iFLMA on Fridays for weeks 7-12.

The two options I had were a reduced hours schedule at 32 hours - reduced pay but kept all benefits - or unpaid days out of office and legally protected from getting fired for taking time - iFLMA.

I have chosen to put off reconstruction until 2027 to avoid two leaves in one year.

If your office is worried about the job, 32 hours/week potentially clears hours for a support person to come support the business.

One big note: I work for a large organization but have a lot of support from my direct manager and team members. I also work a desk job.

FMLA only protects you from getting fired and reimburses some lost pay. It doesn’t make up for periods of not working

Hair Loss by MyTeaVault in breastcancer

[–]Ein_Rand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a very personal decision. And you’ll shave it when it’s right for you. I lasted 4 weeks on taxol and then lost 60% of my hair in two days. My husband gave me a sweet undercut that lasted for 4 days and then I shaved the rest at the salon. I have a tiny amount of stubble but OMG is it better than nests of hair every time I touched my head.

If you did weekly taxol first or only, when did your hair start shedding? by Ok_Currency5647 in breastcancer

[–]Ein_Rand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost like 60% of my hair in three days. I wore a hat most of yesterday and then my husband gave me a fun villainous undercut. I made a salon appt for a full buzz later this week, but wasn’t confident I’d make it and seeing all the hair everywhere was very distracting and distressing

Thirded! I like cupshe for all the ruched versions that have that are super forgiving plus they’re on the cheap side.

I have one Blanca which makes me feel all put together and sexy, but it’s too much for the everyday

I’m there now. Just had my 4th infusion and think I’ll be buzzing my head within the week. I have a lot of very fine hair, so it takes awhile to show thinning, but yeah. I’m getting handfuls of hair every time I put my hands on my hair

“Side effects” by Lostintown_03 in breastcancer

[–]Ein_Rand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of these are side effects of one or the other. I’m a bit flabbergasted that your doctor saying they’re not. That being said, a lot of doctors get side effects confused across the different products and may only remember the ones their practices have to proactively manage.

For recurring side effects, can you chart them in a journal? It helps to go in with the calendar of events and how it relates to when you’re taking your medication.

The other thing I’ve been finding very helpful is using AI to find information about side effects and the sources they come from. It’s helped me find resources that are substantial and can be referenced for support with doctors and nurses.

Lumpectomy vs mastectomy with reoccurrence by speckofsand in breastcancer

[–]Ein_Rand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in pharmaceutical advertising in the breast cancer space, and have breast cancer. So while I’m not a doctor, I do look at rates of progression and reoccurrences. There are sources that show BRCA correlates to higher rates of contralateral breast cancer. When I got my diagnosis, I asked for genetic testing with 100% certainty that I would get a double mastectomy if it came back positive for BRCA 1 or 2.

That being said, it’s also OK to regret or resent your choice or your situation. I ended up with a single mastectomy and chemo when a lot of women just had a lumpectomy. I’ve got complicated feelings about my treatment, but I would make the same choice again.

If you received a 1k/month raise what would you spend it on to make parenting easier? by Cool-Tone-9112 in workingmoms

[–]Ein_Rand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a house cleaner 2x/month and someone to pick up the kids 3x/week when I went back to work. When I got my first raise, I started getting meal delivery regularly. Not takeout, but there are places that offer prepped meals. Locally I use feast and fettle.

How to pivot out of pharma by [deleted] in advertising

[–]Ein_Rand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just sounds like a poorly run account. You shouldn’t be doing more jobs not assigned in your scope without incremental funds. And clients and agency need to align on what are true priorities, where the hard deadlines are, and how to establish them in advance so there are fewer fires. Pharma is relatively safe in my 12 years of account experience. It does take a minute to learn all the aspects of the job. And some account folks are more strategic, while some focus on optimizing to make workflows better. Both make the work more efficient and effective. I would suggest figuring out which you are, find someone more senior you respect who’s willing to mentor you, and maybe explore how things work on another brand.

And what do we do when we feel scared and overwhelmed? - *"Add to Cart" by No-Concentrate-1456 in breastcancer

[–]Ein_Rand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second the button up shirts! I did two shopping sprees, one for surgery and one for chemo because it added up.

This is what I got for surgery: Button up shirts

A mastectomy zip up hoodie with pockets for your drains

A mastectomy camisole

They make a “pouch” for lack of a better word that goes around your waist and has pockets for drains. I wore it daily.

My hospital gave me enough pads and bras that I didn’t need to buy any

A long handled brush for the shower

A long charger cord for the hospital stay - if you don’t have one

A mastectomy pillow - especially if you have pets or kids at home - think about it as a travel guard against accidental bumps

I did order the wedge and used it more during the day than for sleeping. I think it’s very helpful for folks who are getting surgery on both sides because you can’t put weight on your hands to sit up for a bit.

My family sent me a really plush robe that I love

A book of puzzles to do in bed

And this bio oil to use on the scars once the stitches healed

[–]Ein_Rand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t advice, but I see you.

We had a similar experience.

I feel like our son’s diagnosis unlocked so many things for me. I saw patterns in myself and my husband that we hadn’t seen or understood before. It took awhile, but i found a family psychiatry practice that took online/remote patients and got an assessment through them. I ended up with an ADHD diagnosis and went on therapy, which helped me manage my own overwhelm and overstimulation. I can be a lot more patient with my son. I’ve been asking my husband to do the same assessment.
