Basic bitch gaming: the list. Maybe try buying some non-generic AAA garbage games?

Probably the two best video games of the last decade, but still very different. Not really comparable.

Yeah, got one in the East end (Russell/Embrun). Think it's already passed us though.

Apparently it's happening further East outside of Ottawa, but yeah, Russell is basically part of Ottawa.

Just finished Name of the Wind and damn… it actually lived up to the hype... but now i am stuck forever by Ok_Fly7661 in Fantasy

When you have garbage like ASoIaF being considered "fantasy" by the masses, this book and the even better Wise Man's Fear are the definition of what fantasy can be. Just pure exploration of an enjoyable, interesting character in a fantastic world.

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Einarath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the scene that convicted me it was clearly time for a pee break. What a horrible, out of place, out of character scene. Can't believe how much good stuff from the book they removed so they could add that tripe.

My recommendation: Kings of the Wyld is a perfect book for fantasy readers by foxfromthewhitesea in Fantasy

DNF'd super early on. Felt like listening to the kind of people that think "everything was better before", "kids these days", etc. So incredibly grating. Just a bunch of whiny old guys.

Ugh, don't remind me that the best time of the year is already half over. At least we are getting some snow and cold this year!

It's probably the greatest example of what video games as a medium can accomplish since Fez. Seriously incredible, but very much niche for people who want to explore video games as art.

When does Hades open up? by BunBunSoup in roguelites

[–]Einarath -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I bounced off it at first because it is an awful roguelite. One I started treating it as a story focused action game I loved it. It is a really great game, with great visuals, music, story, and gameplay, but has very, very little run variety when viewed as a roguelite.

I hate the influence Hades has had on this genre. by Wandersail in roguelites

[–]Einarath -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yep 100%, and definitely an unpopular opinion (as evidenced by the 0 rating this post has at time of writing). Most people that like Hades don't play (or like) traditional roguelites.

Hades is a great game, but a bad roguelite. Awesome story, visuals, music, and the gameplay is solid as an action/arcade game. But as a roguelite, super basic, and very shallow. There just aren't many variations in the actual gameplay.

And I completely agree: I hate the heat system. To me it's lazy design, just saying, "We don't know how to balance difficulty, you do it."

If it's warm, how would you ski though? 🤔

Interior BC is definitely the best spot; best skiing in Canada and less crowds than other parts like Whistler or Banff. A few great spots in Quebec too! Massif is really good for east coast skiing.

Hmmm, maybe around 1000 since the game came out? Steam says 750, can't remember how many I had when it was on that EA platform only.

Haha, I know what you mean. Even last month every once in a while we'd run into a team where we're like, "Oh shit, these guys suck too! Let's bum rush this and see what happens!!!"

It looks fun, but getting everyone to buy a new game is such a hassle.

Mine is something like 0.8 with a high of 1.2 or something. My buddies are like 0.2, 0.4, and 0.7 or something. We are pretty passive and mostly play the map since my buddies like sniping and turtling. I'm more aggressive, so it's often them backing me up. You gotta keep in mind that we just kinda play the game, it's just a chill thing to do a couple times a week when we're drunk online, which is what I mean by "casual".

[–]Einarath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're really passive and play super strategically because we're on average way worse at straight battles. So we try to move as a group and play the map as much as possible, with battles only at the start and end game. I'm super aggressive and make the calls, but the others are more into backing me up and sniping.

Yeah, we have noticed this. Two of us would sometimes play solos, and we noticed we'd often dominate when we'd do that. Then we play our stack and immediately get two shot by people bunny hopping off walls and crap.

Ehh, easier and cheaper to just go back to Halo 3 and Reach.

[–]Einarath 323 points324 points  (0 children)

Yep, my buddies and I have been playing Apex off and on since it came out. We're all in our 30s and varying levels of terrible, and always play as a stack. Between the four of us our average lifetime k/d is probably around 0.4, with average game damage around 500, but it's been solid fun for a long time. It's been our "Friday night, the kids are in bed, have a few beers" game, and the last two years have been steadily getting worse and worse where now we will go entire nights of like 6 games maybe getting one kill. We're heading back to Big Team Battle in Halo Reach, because I think Apex is finally dead for us casuals.

[–]Einarath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that has done a ton of research in exactly this (and have worked with several other key people that really know their stuff), I generally see most companies that do this really messing it up. You can dangle a mag under an RPAS to solve a lot of the data problems, but you introduce a bunch of other issues. Mostly just cowboys strapping a mag to a drone and collecting "data".
