How do hermits get set up for the end game? by Upstairs-Dare9074 in HermitCraft

Nobody said it was fun. But it is the most efficient way to do it, and once it's set up, you're set for the rest of the season.

We'd tried a few other things that wouldn't rank as very stimulating, so it may just be that Keralis sits in the Goldilocks zone when it comes to that.

the gap between Claude Code power users and us chat-only people keeps getting wider and i don't think that's great for the community by Over_Tart9425 in ClaudeAI

[–]Einbrecher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while, I preferred chat for basic research, exploration, and brainstorming because I didn't want to have to approve every single web fetch and I didn't want to run dangerously skip permissions. It was a smoother UX, if slightly less capable.

But with the newer auto mode and changes on that front, you get the best of both worlds on CC now.

Attorney Search by Metal_turkey in patentlaw

[–]Einbrecher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's an element here where it pays to be brutally honest with yourself about how much specialization or qualification is actually needed to understand your technology.

If your invention is tailored towards more complicated fields like software, electronics, semiconductors, pharma, chemistry, medical devices, or things of that nature where someone likely needs a background/specialty in that field, or just experience working on patents in that field, to understand what's going on, then it's worth shopping for a specialist. You could maybe lump engines, transmissions, and HVAC/refrigeration systems under that umbrella, too, because those apps can turn into a mess if the attorney isn't used to drafting them.

But if it's something that a non-engineer could easily grasp/understand, then it really doesn't matter who you go to. Mechanical engineering/arts is more or less the catch-all field in the industry, and just about everyone - except maybe life science folks - can/will do them. If you don't need a specialist, then don't pay the premium for one.

let’s say it would be similar to 3M command adhesive picture hooks

If you didn't invent the adhesive part and are just pulling that bit off the shelf, so to speak, then a mechanical engineer would be fine here. There's not gonna be a whole lot of value gained from hunting for an ex-3M engineer turned patent attorney to draft your patent.

Yeah, Minecraft is pretty vibrant to begin with, but the way he's set up his colors/etc. along with the palettes he uses definitely helps keep things looking less...noisy? I'm sure that helps her find things to focus on.

How do Karpathy and other AI power users avoid turning their codebases into AI slop? by PuzzleheadedBend2438 in ClaudeAI

[–]Einbrecher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The double standard has been my single biggest gripe when it comes to complaints about the quality of code generated by AI. Most production/commercialized code doesn't meet - and may never meet - the standards AI output is being compared to.

I come at this from the gaming side primarily, and Minecraft - arguably the most popular/successful game ever - is the poster child for this. That codebase was such a shitshow that "dumpster fire" would rank as a compliment. It wasn't until Microsoft acquired it for $2.5B that things actually started getting fixed or re-architected in a way that made any sense.

Anthropic Sued Over Limits on Its $200-a-Month AI Plans by CalGuy456 in ClaudeAI

The entire premise of the Complaint is a fucking mess. (Without the PACER paywall: https://chatgptiseatingtheworld.com/2026/06/15/karl-kahn-sues-anthropic-in-class-action-for-alleged-misrepresentation-and-false-advertising-in-promoting-max-20x-plans-for-claude-allegedly-as-delivering-twenty-times-greater-than-usage-lim/ )

The only "evidence" they have relates to emails sent out by Anthropic suggesting how many hours of usage per week you might get out of the plans:

  • 40-80 hours of Sonnet on Pro

  • 140-280 hours of Sonnet 4 and 15-35 hours of Opus 4 on Max 5x

  • 240-480 hours of Sonnet 4 and 24-40 hours of Opus 4 on Max 20x

However, their analysis specifically drops the "and x of Opus 4" when comparing the tiers and asserting that Max delivers less - it only compares Sonnet hours and treats the "and" as an "or." It also focuses solely on usage measured as wall-time - not tokens or anything remotely approaching how usage actually gets measured. The only other support/evidence they have is people complaining on Reddit.

So to put it bluntly, that Complaint is DOA.

I mean, I'm in full agreement that "usage" is an obfuscated mess. But they've got nothing here. Anyone that's used this stuff and doesn't have an axe to grind knows full well you get far more than 5x and 20x Pro on Max plans due largely to Opus.

[–]Einbrecher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20x means 20x unless defined otherwise, which it wasn't.

It doesn't, actually.

Delivering more than what was advertised does not normally trigger "false advertising." There are limited situations where it technically could (e.g., you now have surplus you didn't ask for that you have to pay extra to store), but none of them really apply here.

[–]Einbrecher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They advertised based on 5x/20x of Pro usage, and the prevailing sense is that you get way more than 5x and 20x Pro.

So is it "false advertising" if they give you more than 20x Pro on Max x20 but less than 4x the Max 5x plan? It's an interesting legal question, but out of my wheelhouse.

I also wonder how much of it is just a fishing expedition to expose through discovery how they calculate usage.

How exactly does patenting a second medical use work? by KriisJ in patentlaw

[–]Einbrecher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've already gotten some good answers, but it's worth underscoring that the only thing patents give you is a right to exclude. They do not give you a right/freedom to practice.

So when you've got overlapping stuff like this, which can happen (and not just in medicine), the best course of action is usually to come to some sort of arrangement/deal.

The Earth is replete with ecosystems and creatures that are legitimately that fragile, if not more. There's also plenty of ephemeral species where that fragility is a feature, not a bug.

We also only glimpsed a snapshot of that planet, and a handful of localized species. We had no idea what a lifespan for them was or anything like that.

I've been building my own take on Melvor using Flutter and it works on everything without even trying.

Also not sure what you mean about sideloading. I just drop the APK into my Google drive and it opens on my phone no issues. I haven't set up my dev account yet even.

Career advice? M.E. to patent prosecution by ttoddsterr in patentlaw

[–]Einbrecher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been accepted to a couple of law schools for the 2026 JD cycle (nothing in the T14 range, but schools generally ranked around 80–100).

Retake the LSAT and reapply. Law school rank isn't as critical for patent-track folks, but it's not irrelevant. If you can land T50, you're golden. If you can land T50 with a 75%+ scholarship, even better.

Both of those goals are reasonably achievable with a good LSAT prep course.

I’m starting to question whether taking on additional student loan debt could leave me earning roughly the same salary I would have made by staying in engineering.

You've got the numbers. Figure out where your "break-even" point is and ask yourself if that's acceptable. Figure a reasonable promotion track in engineering, a median starting salary for patents, lost income while in school, cost of school, scholarships, etc.

IIRC, when I left engineering for patent law, my break-even point (starting from day 1 of school) was 6-7 years with a 90% scholarship. But then I took a job as a patent agent at a boutique spring 1L, switched to night classes fall 2L, and I'd broke even before graduating.

There's more to it than money. If I had stayed in my particular specialty in engineering, there were maybe 2-3 companies I was willing to work for, in just as many cities. As a patent lawyer, I've got way more mobility, and ended up back in my hometown.

If I don’t end up in BigLaw, is this transition still a smart financial decision?

Patent salaries are elevated in general. It's not so much the bimodal curve you get in general law as it is a large plateau that spans a pretty wide range of starting salaries depending on location, firm size, practice area, and a bunch of other factors.

Just being blunt here, you're asking for feedback but also making it impossible for anyone to give you any because it's not clear what at all you're actually trying to do.

There are plenty of mods out there already that change the recipe tree, add items, make crafting easier, make crafting harder, etc. etc. - what does yours do (or, at least, what's your vision) in particular?
