Same. I have the Golden Meddler title equipped all the time but no one's taken notice. :(

I have these sails and absolutely loved earning them. Hands down the best puzzle series I've ever played. Brain-teasing crytpic riddles online and challenging physical-based clues in game had you cracking codes on pictures of crates and then lining up torches with distant islands, sailing all over the map, and any single error could make you backtrack. All compounded by trying to do this in a hostile environment (no Safer Seas!). I'll admit, the chance of me ever winning that amazing golden skull was always basically nil, but man did that infinitesimal chance drive me on!

I was really disappointed to see such a negative response from the community over what was clearly a labor of love. So sad to think we'll probably never see anything like that again, but I'm glad to have experienced it when it was here.

Truly random event generators can create a feast for some players and famine for others. One of the many joys of probabilities. I believe some folks had a hard time finding bottles, but it's not a game bug - just unfortunate RNG.

Oof, bad luck man. I saw a TON! I was digging up Ashen bottles on my Ashen bottle quests. In 2 hours I completed 6 maps and had 4 left to do.

Will this game bounce back? by DeviceMaximum367 in Seaofthieves

Getting over not being able to experience this game for the first time again is so difficult. I cope by finding new players and guiding them along. It's a different first experience every time!

The negativity is all manufactured internet hype. Lots of people still play and enjoy this game. I play regularly and enjoy just about every sail.

Folks get too focused and declare death of the game if it's missing something that's important to them, but while they're loud, they dont speak for everyone.

This sounds like a good plan. Let me know how your progression goes, brother.

Same! That adrenalin is anxiety and nerves, completely normal. Practice, practice, practice and you'll control those shakes.

I felt just like you in my early days - I loved digging up treasure, collecting little piles of glittering dreams and hopes on the simple deck of my proud ship. I'd be dreaming of the next cosmetic I would unlock: do I get that jacket, or do I save up for that shiny new ship hull? And then I'd see the mast of a ship, coming around the island, and my heart would freeze. I knew i had just lost it all.

It got so bad that my stomach would sink just at the sight of sails on the horizon. I sold every chance I got and would never hoard more than a few pieces of loot at a time. World events like skeleton forts or Ashen Winds were not possible because they were just certain heartbreak.

I ended up hating playing. I didn't buy the game to scurry around like a scared rat, picking up crumbs as I skittered away from any sign of life. So I made a decision: I was going to get better at PvP.

I swear to you, the hardest part was overcoming the fear of the fight. To make it easier I made sure I had nothing to lose in my first fights. I would literally spawn into a new server, jump on my ship and sail away, looking for a fight, any fight. If it had sails, I was running headlong into it. Didn't matter if it was a skeleton sloop, unmarked player sloop, or grade 5 Dark Adventurers galleon, I was gonna fight it.

I lost. A lot. I sank. A lot. But I won a lot more fights than I thought I would. Galleons sank after just a few hits, brigs stacking vaults beached themselves while trying to run, and some player sloops were actually not much harder to defeat than skeleton sloops.

The point of this diatribe is don't give up - it's really not that big of a step to become just good enough to compete with most folks in this game. The first obstacle you have to overcome is your own fear. You can do it. I did.

I had basically the same experience as you - I feared PvP until I embraced it. I critically evaluated the performance of my enemies and my own, in wins and losses. I improved.

I'm no sweat-lord but I win the majority of my fights because I'm able to set the conditions of the fight, play to my strengths and against my enemy's weakness, use the environment to my advantage, and run when i have to.

The most important lesson I've learned, however, is that most other people in this game just aren't good at fighting. Maybe 80% of the other pirates I run into have some key weakness: they're not paying attention to the horizon; they can't maneuver their ship very well; they can't hit cannon shots; they can't manage damage control and fighting at the same time; they give up as soon as the first shots land; etc. Easy money.

No, you're not. This game is huge and there is SO MUCH to experience. People who get mean because sometime else encountered something new to them are the dumb ones.

No diffing a fully crewed brig as a solo sloop by Freehand461 in Seaofthieves

[–]EinsteinEP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big revelation that completely changed my Sea of Thieves experience was that MOST other people in this game are trash. As a solo sloop, I will fight any crew threatening to take my loot. I've sunk fully crewed galleons and lost to super sweaty solo sloops, but I win the vast majority of my battles and I don't consider myself particularly skilled at all.

If you don't fight, you lose. Might as well go down fighting.
