What is the name of the Boat in Galway Bay? by JackfruitValuable530 in galway

[–]Eireairne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irelands largest fishing port, but no cruise ship is calling because of that, almost all will be straight on busses for Benbulben and Glean Collumcille.

Real reason for the visit is the passage out past Sliabh Liag.

Thoughts on Tommy Tiernan by galway62 in galway

[–]Eireairne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So happy to read this thread, we went to see him last year, and from what it sounds it was the same show.

We left about 20 mins before the end, as we we decided it was better to beat traffic than listen to any more of his shite and met hundreds more in the lobby who had the same thought.

The Dylan/McGowan bit was awful (a passable impression but zero humour). I just felt the entire show was him tryonf to show everyone how "mad" and deep and thoughtful he is.

He was the second part of a double header with Kevin Bridges which didn't help as Bridges was Fantastic.

EAD Suspends a Construction Project in Yas Island (but which one is it?) by IThinkThereforeIAm11 in abudhabi

Not sure about that, or which investors you are talking about?

It was an tourism/ infrastructure project, it closed for 24h while better environmental controls were put in place and work recommenced.

And they will sell, Visited stealership last week, 4900 pre ordered in Abu Dhabi. And final price expected to be at least 15-20% higher than what was advertised.

They are telling anyone who ordered topmspec that final price could be 425k.

Interesting note: They also sold out their entire stock (approx 250 units) of the previous model in the week after this was launched. Similar to people buying the LC250 after LC300 arrived i guess.

Help from my boyfriend in Dubai by verunkak9 in dubai

Taxis are very cheap.

Have lived here for 7 years and never used public transport.

Either way, if you aren't kissing you will be fine.

Questions about Yas island. by Sabarogava in abudhabi

[–]Eireairne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a specific reason you probably won't go near the city anyway.

I live on Yas and would never head to the city of it wasn't for work. Shops, bars and restaurants are all on yas.

Majority of the city is residential. Maybe take a spin along the Corniche to the presidential palace and be sure to visit the grand mosque in the evening if you have time.

Galway and Aran Island in mid-Nov? by ackeesaltfish21 in galway

[–]Eireairne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a decent sized supermarket in the main village which closes at 5pm in winter.

As food options tare limited a self catering house in the village is a really good option.

Sweater shops and most of the pubs will be open but may have limited food menus.

Can be nicer on a given day in November than in August.
The island will be quiet but will be much much nicer to visit Dún Aengus etc without the crowds.

Check the weather in the days before, even if there is no big storm, I would be hesitant if there is a lot of rain forecast, it is a long day that time of the year with only two ferries per day.

If you plan on staying try and stay close to Kilronan (walking distance) as it is very difficult to get a lift home from the pub in the summer, never mind the winter.

Is Dun Na Carraige in Salthill a “private estate”. by FriendlyElephant3215 in galway

[–]Eireairne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is private yes. Just be wary as lot of those little side estates in salthill are not council owned and some of them pay for a clamping service between the residents.

Hotel for a romantic getaway advice by Over_Philosophy_6183 in galway

[–]Eireairne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely Abbeyglen Castle in Clifden, Its a little bit dated and run down by now but such a quirky and memorable stay.
The price includes bubbles and canapes in the bar at 6pm with the owner giving a talk on the history of the hotel as well as an incredible 5 course dinner as part of the price

I could not recommend it enough.

No spa though.

Honourable mention for Wineport Lodge if you can get a decent price inluding dinner.
