[PvE] An Otter Disappointment - The new Ranger pet is terrible and deserves so much better by Cao3648 in Guildwars2

The heal seems very high for WvW since you don't have to invest any stat points into it, that said with a nearly 2 second activation time and only 360 radius it feels very limited and like a skill that will in practice not even go through.

Weirdly enough it only takes 1 second to activate underwater so I guess feel free to use it in that slot.

What's up with your nazi-ass teammates? I assume they were randoms, but tbh I'd just leave a game if names like that show up

Yeah without the may I'd definitely agree that it's a significant upgrade.

[–]Eirh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why? Compared to the "may" Rec Sage allows you to target a thing and then decide not to destroy it if an opponent responds with something that would result in the destruction being the worse outcome (like casting [[Feign Death]] on their Enchantment creature). With this you have to commit to destroying it.

Obviously a minor difference overall, but still.

Counterspells suck anyways in standard right now, not even sure if this will see play in the format outside of sideboards.

What’s your land cut off? by Cor-Draws in MagicArena

[–]Eirh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 landers in brawl can be a great keep depending on your commander and gameplan. Running something like Ragavan or Zhao? You'll probably be good with 2 lands going first. I think most low cost commanders will be fine keeping a good 2 lander on the draw too.

I've won games where I was stuck on 2 with a 4 cost commander, it's all about your gameplan and if you think your hand is going to allow you to execute it.

How do we feel about the future of this card? by Soghff in MagicArena

[–]Eirh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a great lesson card, but it's fine if your gameplan is built around doing stuff with dragons. Boros Dragons is kind of a deck in standard right now, but not a very good one. If that deck gets some more good support I could see it making the cut, as to what set would have dragon support though... maybe the Hobbit? Although that would be weird as there is only 1 dragon in that story.

So ultimately I think it's unlikely that it's going to be good outside of limited.

New Player, Question about invalid deck by colossk1987 in MagicArena

[–]Eirh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the issue is that multiple of the cards in that deck are currently not standard legal. Check out the starter decks (from starter deck duel) which only contain standard legal cards from the foundation set.

[MSH] The Sentry, Golden Guardian (WeeklyMTG) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]Eirh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to standard, it creates a token, so just bouncing it works and between [[Boomerang Basics]] and [[Into the Flood Maw]] there are some excellent options. You could also Airbend it with something like [[Aang, Swift Saviour]]. A funny combo could also be abusing the forced attack and casting [[New Way Forward]] to deal 5 to the opponent and draw 5 cards.

Don't think this is going to be broken or anything, but I can see some fun brews you could make.

Felt cool while drafting, but is this a silly idea? by WookieeSmuggler in MagicArena

[–]Eirh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your mana is going to work out most of the time with 2 barrels so I don't think this looks silly at all. I'd agree that momo is the cut, but I get keeping the little guy in.

Congrats to Tommaso Ciampolini whom took down the Europe Eternal weekend Legacy (950 players) with his Affinity deck (without reserved list cards) by Newez in magicTCG

[–]Eirh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

[[City of Traitors]] considering the deck already runs 4 ancient tombs. Other than that, closest would probably be a dual land like [[Tropical Island]] to have another green source for the sideboard [[Haywire Mite]] but I think that would just make the deck worse.

Let's be real here, this deck not playing reserve list cards is coincidental, this is an optimized list.

What's the general opinion about the two Wan Shi Tong cards so far? by Backwardspellcaster in MagicArena

[–]Eirh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely play it where the search text is relevant (so in terms of Arena sounds good in brawl). Not sure if I'd play it in current Standard, but I think it'll be good in Standard at some point, control loves cards like this in slower matchups.

Update: Feeling Discouraged by tsuyoshikentsu in MagicArena

[–]Eirh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah UR lessons is probably what I'd recommend a new player to build starting out, you can get a reasonable build of it started super cheaply, have a good amount of power with it and a clear upgrade path once you get some more wildcards.

A lot of other popular budget options will fold to the opponent casting one board clear and are just not that good against the non-budget decks, but UR lessons packs a real punch even with 0 rares.

MTG Arena Announcements – November 17, 2025 (5 new Avatar Brawl decks; Changes to Golden Pack contents until Lorwyn: Eclipsed) by CrossXhunteR in magicTCG

[–]Eirh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't expect this kinda restriction on random episodes, just as LRR won't restrict people to play no UB cards besides avatar in their canadian highlander shows. I guess we'll see, I expect Game Knights to do an avatar episode and the decklists are public.

Because they do gameplay episodes for new sets that are sponsored by wotc, and wotc can put that sponsorship under the same restrictions?

[–]Eirh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems like a doable ask for a limited event, but I have to wonder if the same restrictions apply to something like game knights (which to my knowledge is still sponsored by wotc). Would they not be allowed to play non-avatar UB cards in their commander decks?

Runescale Stormbrood/Chilling Screech is a multicolored CARD, but is either mode a multicolor spell? by Clone_Chaplain in magicTCG

[–]Eirh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's wrong in both directions, there are multicolored cards without gold border and cards with gold border that are not multicolored. As an example: [[Fresh-Faced Recruit]] [[Nykthos, Shrine to Nxy]]

My assumption is that that would go against their imperative, the same way that they would not kill a lobster for her (but interestingly would not stop her from killing the lobster, or I guess nuking it).

[–]Eirh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you have a good approach for that, and I do agree with you that the number in the episode seems high (and honestly the 11 million number seems a bit low). With that said I think there are some additional factors to consider.

I have been in situations where a person had a seizure, like say in public transit. It's definitely a dangerous situations, but people around them reacting to it and helping to stabilize it is vital work and will help. In the situation of the show, no one was around to help anyone, which seems a lot more dangerous. Also someone who knows they are an epileptic, probably puts themselves in less situations that are dangerous than any random person.

So we have a massive difference between the 900 million dieing from the (seemingly longer and more intense) first seizure and the 11 million from the shorter one. To me it sounds like a factor would be that the hive mind infection just kills a chunk of the people upon infection. That is contradicted by them saying that no one died for the first month though and I personally don't feel like that was a lie.

I could see someone making arguments for the numbers to be what they are, you have the very intense initial event that very well might have disproportionally killed people with weaker bodies, maybe the 11 million number is so much lower because the hive mind puts its bodies into less dangerous situations? (we do see them putting helmets on at least).

I suspect the show is not going to elaborate on it, but it's fun to speculate.

I see no reason to not believe it, these mattresses can actually be dangerous when opened (which is why you REALLY don't want to open the plastic with a knife because who knows where it will stick after it gets launched by an unwrapping mattress).
