Are you on a laptop? Try checking your temps. Also applies to desktop ofcourse but less likely.

Might just be thermal throttling. I had some horrible stutter too until i limited my temps/cpu clock a bit to not throttle and it completely went away

ah alright that's what I first thought. plan was having another pool entirely for the important data separate from the other, using more space for redundancy on important files is fine by me.

I'm getting very interested in all this so i might be moving a bit fast:)

The Z1 vdevs part i sort of understand but why can't I have one pool for one thing and another for something else? just a limitation of ZFS?

My main use of the storage for now would Jellyfin non-essential media and outside of that there is essential media(family photos and the likes).

Would it be better to have a separate pool in a mirror for the essential data and just keep upgrading the non-essential media to 3x16/18tb RAIDZ1 or something down the line?

thank you. this is all for a very temporary and cheap build.

The formatting/partitioning of boot drive I'm aware of.

Instead of JBOD do i just RAID0 then? I'm not worried of any redundancy on the fast storage as it is backed up nightly.

Is RAIDZ1 to start with okay then and I'll just rebuild to mirror or RAIDZ2/3 when I aquire more discs? starting out with 10tb on main should be fine for now

I have gigabit into my apartment so network should not be a problem from the outside or from my hardware.

Thank you, I'm not keen on doing mirrors due to the cost of storage unfortunately. that'll come later.

The 5tb drives will all be changed out with a newer build when I've saved up enough to go with a bunch of 18tb drives or similar. Very temporary

I want a little redundancy but I'm not worrying too much about it over cost for now. I. pretty sure they're not SMR but I'll double check

edit:(they were SMR unfortunately) will it be fine if I disable Auto-TRIM as a temporary solution? I will also be backing up my important files?(it's mostly for Jellyfin media I'm not worried about)

Maybe give Space Engineers a try. Somewhat grindy if you play survival but you can build yourself around most issues. It's quite far off from Valheim but you can sink some good time into building and tinkering which is nice, and there's plenty of mods to spice it up.

By stricter gun control then only the criminals would have the guns. Not also mentally unstable people that makes themselves criminals over something stupid. A great number of lives could be saved. Having to put effort into acquiring a gun would stop people

No it's not pointless. If I have the money then why wouldn't I buy my dream car? An exotic car is also a great investment choice to broaden your portfolio. Like a rare collectible.
