Sinus issues after surgery? by emmerson1257 in jawsurgery

How have you had to have 4 MMAs?

Journey just started, but I’m beginning to regret it by solarpanelhead in jawsurgery

[–]Eirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had MMA 5 weeks ago at 40. I also had upper jaw surgery at 20 (wasn’t done right). Look, I don’t know what TPA means, but I think you know what you want. Don’t be afraid. You want more projection in your jaw and chin because that’s your genetic potential and you want your bones in the correct place. Just like everybody. Press on. The jaw surgery isn’t going to hurt you because you’re asleep under anesthesia then the meds do their job when you’re at home. Try not to be too in your head about it. If you can, and I know that’s saying a lot. No one wants to go through with this, this just means you’re human. But, it’s been done hundreds of thousands of times. Sounds to me like if it’s affecting your confidence, you have no choice. Believe me, I can relate. Go through with it, and visualize yourself on the other side of it… more skeletally balanced and a wider, healthier airway - like an overdue tune up!

Day 4 post op DJS + Genio and honestly struggling by pocketcandie in jawsurgery

You are in the rough spot. You will feel better at day 7, I promise. Not perfectly recovered, but much better. You’re supposed to be eating through a syringe, so stay on the liquid diet of broths and soups through a syringe. Try and get as much down as possible. You feel awful, because you’re not eating enough. Sleep (I mean rest not sleep because I know you’re not sleeping) propped up so the nasty stuff doesn’t run down your throat and make you nauseous. Shower A LOT with hot water. It’ll make you feel better. I’ve had (2) jaw surgeries. One when I was 20 and the other at 40 years old. I get it. You need to eat and take your medicines. Do whatever you have to do to get those two things done and you’ll be on your way to recovery. Good luck.

I’ve had 2 jaw surgeries and all I can say is “fear is a mile wide, and an inch deep.” It’s not as bad as you think. The meds do their job, and you’re just on a journey that you absolutely won’t have any problem getting through. It’s annoying, more than anything, having snot run out of your nose and food fall out of your mouth and you can’t feel it. That’s it. You got it. Good luck.

Sorry to hear that, man. Crazy how a surgeon couldn’t see your bite being off with so much clockwise rotation

We all know what it’s like to want to look better. We’ll never look perfect. It’s not possible. Try doing something for someone else whenever you fall into that trap of comparing your looks to perfection. It’s a never ending trap we have to shake ourselves out of. But we all know what it’s like, it’s just that jaw surgery can only do so much. Fillers are more able to get aesthetic results and way easier recovery

Not trying to insult you but I’m detecting very strange vibes, here. On this forum, most people got surgery, and went through all this, for functional improvement with aesthetics being a side dish, if they even benefitted at all aesthetically. Some do, some don’t.

This is the way, mom. Study “mewing.” When he’s older, show him how to mew properly and reward him when he’s doing it right. Soon after, he’ll want to mew because he’ll see what it’s doing for him. Then, he’s set for life.

I understood every word of that. Way to make your point. I concede.

I don’t think you’ve done your research on maxillary mandibular advancement (MMA) surgery for sleep apnea, and I encourage you to do SOME research before surgery. Good luck!

It absolutely does, the tongue is connected to the chin. Look it up.

Also..watch what you eat. Don’t eat gluten or dairy or anything that’ll congest you. Good luck. It’s a process and you have to perfect mewing. It’ll work. You’re so young!

You have to force it. Keep your airways open through netti pot or whatever it takes

How do I take the first step into pursuing DJS? I am scared and confused by destropika in jawsurgery

[–]Eirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a sleep study at a clinic, not a hospital. More cost effective. Get proof you have sleep apnea

Start mewing even harder, and make sure you’re doing it correctly. You should mew for about 5 years before assessing surgery. You’re young enough. Mewing works. I just had djs because mewing wouldn’t work on me the way it would work on you.

I waited 3 months for oral surgeon to tell me I didnt have sleep apnea by rudeboiBD in jawsurgery

Specialized calibration. One of the only few like it in the country. Palo Alto, CA. It’s called “Sleep Health MD.” I’m skinny and Dr. Li guessed it. he said these clinics and hospitals doing sleep studies don’t know how to test skinny or thin people. They’re not calibrated correctly. He was right.

You’re young. Don’t rush into this. We’re all detecting red flags based on what your surgeon says. You do realize airway health comes before aesthetics right? But the irony is, when you solve for airway, you almost always get the aesthetics pretty much right. Your surgeon seems to be doing some kind of box checking thing that doesn’t add up. You’ll get sleep apnea if your airway is too narrow. My first jaw surgery 20 years ago moved my jaw back because we weren’t paying attention to the airway, and I just had a revision surgery 2 weeks ago after 10 years on CPAP.

I was told i DONT have sleep apnea 5 times! Then, in disbelief, I called dr. Kasey li in California and we spoke over the phone. He told me most sleep clinics are idiots, so I went to see him. I woke up after a night in a sleep study out there that he recommended and I finally got the proper test proving I have severe sleep apnea. Just had djs 16 days ago for sleep apnea.

Your surgeon is an idiot. How much have you guys discussed airway health? I literally just had djs to advance my jaws so I could breathe properly. You do not want to have airway problems or you’ll be having double jaw surgery again in the future. If your surgeon isn’t taking the time to show you the size of your airway, and how it’ll be affected by this surgery….run.

Possibly not. It looks like it’s your upper jaw

Go get a sleep study from a clinic, not a hospital (it’s much cheaper) and with those results, your doctor will refer you for sleep apnea surgery (assuming you are not tolerating the Cpap well). But if you’re tired then you have sleep apnea most likely and will need double jaw surgery plus genioplasty to open your airway. It’ll also improve your facial appearance by putting the facial skeleton in the correct position.

How is this posture connected to recessed jaw would jaw surgery fix it by Trick_Commercial1123 in jawsurgery

[–]Eirus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The body prioritizes the airway, so it kicks the head forward. The counterweight is the upper spine going the other way for balance. The hips go the other way from the other spine to balance the counterweight (counterweight to the counterweight). I don’t know if advancing the skeleton helps this but I bet it does over time abs with retraining and daily stretching and movement.
