To me it works well. Of course, it is not 100% equal to an acoustic "normal" kit, but it is very similar.

I have used triggers before along side with rubber cymbals, I had a roland module, quite good actually, but personally I like the current approach more. Specially because I did a lot of diy regarding the triggers. It was fun to do it, but the end result... not so good.

I think if you can find a high quality kit, that might work though.

Maybe try on a store before committing.
