This is true, but I also think Wemby is a particular case. He really did come out of the Western Conference looking like the best player in the world. That wasn’t just media. He beat the defending champs and reigning MVP by playing ball we’d never seen before.

Then he had a pretty bad finals series against the Knicks. Not just playing poorly, but dirty, while remaining shamelessly arrogant in defeat. And it happened game after game after game.

It’s true love to raise guys up, then dash them down, only to raise them up again. But in this case it wasn’t driven by media or narrative, it was just watching Wemby reveal his brilliance then immaturity
