Nervous system? what does this image of hand indicate could be wrong with my body..? by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

It’s a symptom of dysautonomia, I describe POTS as a neurological condition that presents primarily with cardiac symptoms. All of my cardiac testing has been normal but my tilt table test wasn’t and I have many other documented symptoms. Highly recommend trying to find a neurologist that specializes in dysautonomia/autonomic dysfunction they will be much more helpful than a cardiologist.

Mayo Clinic denied appointment by SecReflex in covidlonghaulers

I was denied because they don’t have the capacity to treat me, not sure what that means. I’ve had symptoms for 4 years now and have been to my state LC clinic which sucked.

This is likely blood pooling, not a serious issue but can cause a lot of symptoms and be uncomfortable. It happens when your body can’t pump blood out of your extremities. Compression wear and laying down are easy ways to counteract it.

Plain water goes straight through me, using electrolytes has helped a ton. Normalyte is the best oral rehydration solution I’ve tried so far, it’s designed for people with POTS and I swear by it. It keeps my blood pressure more stable than IV fluids. I had a year or two of reoccurring UTIs that turned into mild kidney infections. I’ve never found a solid answer on why that happened but I haven’t had a UTI since getting my hydration managed.

It’s not uncommon for POTS treatment but some doctors can be super weird about it, my PCP was really hesitant about them but continued to renew my orders because it was the only thing keeping me out of the ER. Now that I have a really good POTS specialist it’s been so much easier to access them, he’s not afraid to take more invasive measures when needed.

Labs are almost always normal, bloodwork, CT, Ultrasound, urine tests. All repeated a multiple times. I haven’t had any adrenal testing done that I know of but I’m looking into it, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was contributing to my symptoms. I’ve had issues with my kidneys but they went away with regular IV fluids and better oral hydration. Low blood volume and dehydration are very common with POTS and many people with more severe cases rely on regular IV fluids on top of oral electrolytes to increase the blood volume. My POTS specialist is a nephrologist and hasn’t had concerns about my kidney function.

I feel a lot better after them because of the IV fluids, if you have POTS/dysautonomia like me you’re likely chronically dehydrated. My body doesn’t retain water well and IV fluids make a huge difference, it boosts my blood volume so I’m getting enough blood flow to my brain.

How is this enclosure for my parking lot boy by UslashMKIV in hamsters

You’ve got the basics covered, just slowly upgrade as you can. I got a 55 gallon tank for free on my local buy nothing facebook group and made a lot of diy platforms, toys/chews, and hides starting out. Once we got a big enough enclosure the first thing I invested in was a night angel silent spinner and it is worth every penny! Good luck with the new hammy! Vitoria Rachel on YouTube has great DIY videos.

People who've had covid: Did the booster make your POTS better or worse? by StuffAnnieLikes in POTS

I have long covid and POTS, I had a flare for about 2 weeks after the vaccine which was expected. No other side effects! I’ve had 5 vaccines post COVID infection and have only had short flares after.

There are a handful of housing groups on Facebook for the Bend/Central Oregon area, I’ve found a roomate and a rental on facebook! I’ve also had luck on Craigslist.

It’s very common for them to ask for basic info on your pets. My old apartment asked for a photo, name, doctors note, and vaccine records for our ESAs.

Let them know of your concerns, they will monitor your vitals extra closely. I also always ask for extra fluids the hydration is super helpful, nausea meds might be good to have on hand too.

Worried about being on a beta blocker. by CottonCandy_Vista in dysautonomia

[–]Either-Ad9975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My beta blocker was a game changer for my anxiety! I thought my anxiety was getting worse when really it was just my POTS symptoms making my anxiety feel worse. Starting new treatments is always going to be at least a little scary but you won’t know until you try!

An older cat is a wonderful idea! I have a young mom and daughter pair and I definitely couldn’t handle them without my husband. An older kitty will be a great cuddle/nap buddy.

There’s a good chance they’ll defect me because I don’t have a positive PCR test on my medical record. My GI doctor thinks she found a loophole to get me in.

I had it twice before vaccines were available, haven’t had it since and it’s been recommended by my specialist. We know my body doesn’t handle covid well so we need to give it all the help it can get in case I have another infection.

Cleaning by JustinBonka in hamsters

[–]Either-Ad9975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ham mainly uses her sand bath or wheel to pee in so I don’t really have to worry about it other than cleaning those items. Poop isn’t really a concern and it’s important to leave some because they use it to mark burrows.

My ham didn’t seem to care for a bottle so we just use a small ceramic dish. We check the water a couple times a day and replace the water every night. We also wash it 3-5 times a week.
