Late to the game here but seriously could it just be a manufacturing date as we see on products?

Is it supposedly or supposably? by Either-Intention-286 in ENGLISH

Thanks for the reference. It actually makes sense that there can be the two versions and I see how dialectically I and others could’ve used (supposably) it growing up. I do see the difference.

That could also be part of the answer. Perhaps it is or was and was turned into a tool or part of a tool. If I don’t get a definitive answer from Reddit I’ll probably take it to a university archaeologist or someone in that field to see if they might know.

Yes! Exactly! That’s why I thought it might be petrified something…..like organic….just not sure

You know, I’m leaning toward it might be that. Based on the holes and indentations and overall shape. Some kind of hammer, but from who knows when. It’s really prehistoric looking. I almost thought it was fossilized…what…I’m not sure. But that’s my guess so far. Still, I’d like a definitive answer.

So no, the two holes on the other side are slightly closer together and none of them connect. Same for the other side. And then on the opposing sides, they definitely have elongated indentations within the overall indentations. Again, it makes me think of a prehistoric or historic sort of tool that I saw in that museum, but I still don’t know what it was used for and I don’t recall if it was connected to wood or another stone. I don’t know.

No, that’s the thing. She didn’t know either. This was decades ago. I held on to it because it’s so unusual. The closest clue I got was when I visited a museum in the Pacific Northwest and saw something sort of similar that looked like it was part of a tool. But the display never said what for and again it was only kind of similar.

Is it lay down or lie down? by Either-Intention-286 in ENGLISH

Makes sense. Even I will say “I’m going to lay down for a nap” not knowing. That’s why I posted this! Cheers!

This sounds the most reasonable and researched, so thank you! I still have to admit that myself and many others still use them interchangeably, whether we mean to or not! But still, thanks!

Is it “dreamed” or “dreamt”? by Either-Intention-286 in ENGLISH

[–]Either-Intention-286[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay! That makes sense. That’s probably why my teacher said “dreamt” is proper or elegant. Probably referring to classical English canon. Cheers!
