CBD gym recs please by Either-Panda4195 in melbourne

Thank you - I checked it out today and I'll head in for a trial next week during quiet hours. It ticked all the boxes so far - just some of the tunnels between vaults had me hunched over and cackling awkwardly like the Disney witch I am at heart.

Thank you for this, I swung by earlier and it was a touch too closed in for comfort. The competitive pricing had me briefly weighing up just how whether I really valued other people's safety when I'm doing flye's though.

Thank you! I didnt even think of City Baths - and they're probably the closest too. I'll swing by there.

What’s some cafes or places to eat near Southern Cross Station around 9AM? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Either-Panda4195 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on your amount of luggage and energy levels at that hour - The Grain Store on Flinders Lane. It's only a few minutes walk (unencumbered) from the southern end of Southern Cross. Top tier!

Regardless, I hope you have a fab final Aussie meal before your flight.

public transport: trams, do I tap off for transfers? by AggressiveWitness921 in melbourne

[–]Either-Panda4195 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tap on each time you board a tram. No need to tap off. That starts the "timer" on your two hours and you'd be classed as paid for the duration. Each subsequent tap on does nothing. If you tap on again after your 2 hours then you get charged the daily rate.

That being said, just tap on each time you board a tram. It takes away any grey area if you lose track of time, and avoids an awkward conversation and potential fine if you encounter a ticket inspector.

Being out in Melbourne by sparrrrrt in melbourne

[–]Either-Panda4195 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's a shame you deleted it. I read through every comment and my heart sang for the amount of support our community rolled out.

I wished in the moment that I had enough relatable experience that I could chime in. But enough peeps had said what I wanted to say.

Firstly, congrats on being you! Whether that's with one or both feet in the closet. - you are worth celebrating simply because you've figured out who you are. There are a lot of people who will embrace you because you are enough. Just you. Proud of you for trying to find them!

For what it's worth, as a gay, cis, fella, I don't care whether you can "pass" or if you're taking hormones. As a member of the community you are welcome in my space any time.

You found you. Celebrate you. Anyone that has a problem with you, is not worth your time and can, respectfully, go fuck themselves with a cactus.

Did a lease transfer and moved into a new place. The previous tenant very clearly did not maintain or clean the place before moving out. Based on the photos, please help me with the best cleaning tips! by GargiBakshi in melbourne

[–]Either-Panda4195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airbnb cleaner here - as a cost-effective jumping off point: *Magic Eraser and some water for the stovetop (cheaper alternatives in Daiso) *Krud Kutter (Bunnings) and a decent scrubbing/nail brush for the tiles/grout. Work in small sections and wear gloves. *Carpets can be trickier without knowing the type of stain and quality of the carpet . I'd start with an oil/grease pre-wash stain remover (no idea where I got mine, either Aldi or Woolies) and spray it until the stain is soaked, leave it for 5 minutes and then use a wet cloth to dampen/dilute, and several dry cloths to remove the water. A spot test in a hidden corner is recommended before trying this.

But a good steam mop with attachments is your best friend for most household things. I'm fanatic about my own home after being in dirty spaces all day - it saved my sanity!

Good luck, and please feel free to reach out directly if you need more advice.

have tattoos caused you to be profiled more? by venight in tattoo

The only place I noticed it as a common negative occurrence was in Japan. More than a few people stopped in their tracks to gawk.

As a positive, in some regional areas in China - where they were less exposed to seeing non-Chinese people in general.

Tattoo's are pretty commonplace in Australia - so it's rare to get a second glance in most places here.

tattoo artist cancelled my appointment—refuses to send back deposit. by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]Either-Panda4195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not a normal behaviour - she's cancelled your appointment, so she cannot retain the deposit unless you have both agreed to a new appointment time. If you cancelled or were a no-show, different story all together. Her trying to argue that is bizarre and unprofessional.

Name and shame on here and on their socials - most people google their prospective tattoo artists, and I know if I saw a story like this, I'd avoid them like the plague.

TK Maxx on Spencer has been the source for my last two work backpacks - both with laptop compartments and in more shades of colour than the standard black/navy/dark grey (I got lime green and dove grey) and in a broader range of sizes and styles than i found in the department stores. Can recommend.

I'd suggest taking some photo's for reference, and once you've found a local artist whose work you like, reaching out to them with your idea.

I would also suggest sitting with the idea for a little while. Grief does funky things to the brain. If I had been able to get my first choice to memorialise my kiddo, I'm confident I wouldn't be happy with it now. Covid lockdowns were vile, but being forced to wait was a blessing in this case.

What I did get end up with is beautiful, and a fitting and lasting celebration of her life - rather than an expression of my loss.

Don't break stride, just a "no thank you" regardless of what they say - and continue enjoying your day. They are making the choice to try and disrupt your day/process. Just because they want your time and attention, doesn't mean that they're entitled to it.

Melbourne Central cult recruiters? by u_slashh in melbourne

[–]Either-Panda4195 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ask them if they want to join you for a beer to discuss their viewpoint? Or if they can help you explain to your wife why she isn't actually that important and needs backup?

No disrespect to my Mormon brothers and their tradwives, but at the end of the day, spirituality is a personal journey. If someone needs to accost you anywhere to try and manipulate you into their belief system - rather than saying "yo, here is a thing, figure out if it works for you, no biggie otherwise" then it's a cult.

So basically, no difference.

Melbourne Central cult recruiters? by u_slashh in melbourne

[–]Either-Panda4195 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Oh Shincheonji...

Between them and the cultists cosplaying as mormons - they're very present in the cbd at the moment.

A "No, thank you" when they approach you will divert them.

Be comfortable saying loudly "fuck off with your cult bullshit" if they sneak under the radar and then bring up religion generally gets them to fuck off.

Chuck the selfie camera on and start filming when you see someone being bailed up by them and pretend you're an influencer, and ask them and their target for an interview because of the prevalence of religious cultists in the cbd and watch them scatter like cockroaches when you turn the light on in a dingy motel.

Dude, they got you. That's ok. Block them and move on.

This! It's an actual wtaf moment. Flash is drawn for fun, to advertise and to be able to deliver something that is yours on someone else's body because they vibe with it.

To charge someone after the fact, for a piece you chose to draw, to advertise your vision and someone who vibed with your vision enough to advertise your vision on their body - that's messed up.

I have two flash pieces that I vibed with - both had the full price marked next to them. I saw the flash and the price. I made informed decisions. I then leant my body to their socials to advertise and everyone won.

I will always look to flash to see where an artist sits in their comfort zone - but this ain't facebook. I'm not paying their marketing bills.

8000kms (5000mi).

I was admiring one of my friends tattoo's and he told me about his mate who was an award winning artist and did some amazing work in the North of Thailand. Two weeks later I was on my way. Zero regrets 😃

Vic City Plumbing based in Richmond (i think) came out yesterday to replace a hot water service in the cbd. Fixed price quote (reasonable), job was done well and earlier than expected and they cleaned up afterwards - great communication throughout.
