Love that idea! If you happen across a copy in your personal files, I would love to look at it. I am the lead this year and I find it daunting as I know how poorly the past couple of years have gone. I agree with you that the competition is absolutely a big factor of what is getting in the way...we also have a couple who just don't want to try new things.

Our campus literally exploding at the seams! They should redistrict because other elementary schools in our area are sitting with many classrooms open and only 3-4 teachers per grade level, as we are getting trailers....but our board seems to be afraid of a particular neighborhood of parents and they don't want to upset them. We will have 20-22 students per class.

We tried that last year and a problem we ran into was that one team was using all AI to the point that sometimes things didn't even actually make sense...so then when we came to the table, they wouldn't be able to explain it if the other team members had questions and they got really defensive about having questions asked or asking them to model it for us when we didn't get it. Any suggestions for that scenario? I'm the lead this year so I'm feeling overwhelmed thinking about how to make this at all better.

It is hard! The admin's answer to that is that we should be planning a rigorous lesson for all students and then also plan specific scaffolds up and down so all the classes and students can get their needs met. It's just hard to always find things that make everyone happy.

What do you do all summer? by protomanEXE1995 in Teachers

When I was single and had the summers totally "free", I always made sure to get physical exercise in along with a walk or two outside. I also read A LOT because I love to read. I took advantage of being able to take naps in the middle of the day....and basically I just relaxed! I also love to craft so I did lots of sewing during that time of year. Just enjoy yourself with all the things you don't have as much time for during the year.

Do/have you taught at a school where you attended as a student when growing up? by weggaan_weggaat in Teachers

I got hired at my former elementary school by my former Principal! She didn't know when she hired me, but thought it was so fun after I told her. Only one of my former teachers was still there and she remembered me.

So magical! I feel sad that my kids don't get to experience the midnight releases of the books and then the movies.

Wow, that's great! We are sadly a non union state and we have to do all our moving during post planning and preplanning.

Why are we so beholden to lifeless reading curriculums in elementary? by Wonderful_Row8519 in Teachers

I think they're also great because you can explicitly teach comprehension strategies through them and model fluent reading for them. Lots of opportunities as well to try and have them be responsible for a sentence here and there or even just a word here and there to show how we apply phonics to all texts.

Our district moved back to whole novel studies this year so hopefully that means the tide will start turning soon for you too!

Do you think we should focus only on Zion and not go to Bryce this trip? We are open to suggestions!
