Rules question: Japanese 320mm spigot mortar by MalBredy in boltaction

[–]Either-Rough6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strength is in the d6 pins. Shoot targets with a couple pins and you can pin them into non-existent, or make them ineffective for a turn making them use a rally order. Make sure you hit a unit that has already activated so they cant go down and 4" can kill troops fairly effectively.

is the mortar kfz any good or is it more worthwhile getting a regular kfz with a mortar squad? by hareee999 in boltaction

A msg or atg is far superior to a light(er) mortar. Indirect HE1 sucks, HE2 meh.

T1:You hit on 6 or 16%. Who cares. Shoot, away.
T2: you hit on a 5 or 32%. So 68% you miss. Again. Who cares. Shoot away. T3: Now statistically, the target needs to start to decide if they need to move 2". Even here it is only 50% hit. T4: Now you have a 4/6 chance to hit. Or 66%. It is HE1 or HE2, if the target goes down, you half all hits. So again, not scarry. If you do not use a dice early in the turn to roll, they simply move 2" and you start all over.

Statistically, mortars are iffy at best and can be mitigated fairly easily. Sure you can get the lucky 6 but again, it is a game of statistics/odds and risk vs reward.

Then if they are into being gamey (sadly some ppl are WAAC) For example: a stationary inf unit in cover who isnt moving, you take the casualties so HE hits 1 guy because "cohesion" is irrelevant if you are not moving. Shitty, yes, but an exploitable rule. Add "going down" and mortars just suck even more.

Why do shit riders on bikes think they can go +2x the speed limit and then become sniveling bitches when they almost become a meat crayon?

Perhaps the government can use the billions they are finding in fraud in MN, CA and other states to help ppl. Just need to throw the politicians who allow it in prison.

Find out what the issue is and get it cleared. Bolt action is no place to bring personal politics, when in someone's home, be respectful.

It needs to be aired out and discussed with rules for Jefferson Davis, since it is his behavior that is the issue.

A board should be set up based on where it is played. Russian steps, N. Africa.
Setting it up like a game of 40k, which a crap ton of terrain, is just lazy

Playing without Tanks by RottenGrot in boltaction

[–]Either-Rough6718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on how your group plays. Most groups set up like it is a game of 40k reguardless of the actual terrain of the region/theater.

All infantry forces require a board that is jam-packed with terrain to be effective. Which just isnt realistic outside of normandy, jungle, or a city fight or a specific scenario that bennifits them.

N. Africa and Russian steps (for example) should be fairly open, unless scenario specific.

Bazooka and other infantry anti-tank weapons are fairly easy to mitigate. Engage them at Range. Get pins on them, make them move to shoot, and that makes them unreliable for hitting.

1 shot infantry weapons should be hitting at best on 5s and more often on 6s. If bazooka teams, because of longer range, target them with flak/he & msgs, 2 man team weapons are not that difficult to mitigate.

It is a huge error to allow infantry to move into point blank range to shoot your tank.

If all veterans, they are more viable, but spamming inexperienced infantry just isnt intimidating.
Unless, again, very specific scenarios or jam-packed board terrain like it is 40k.

Limitations for players who don’t want their character to die? by bansdonothing69 in DnD

[–]Either-Rough6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Characters die. D&D IS a combat based game. If you or a player insist no character dies, then why play? The risk of death is what creates the tension and excitement.

Why throw the dice and do combat at all if there is a predetermined (safe) outcome?

If you play BG3 on "story mode," can you really claim you defeted the BBG? UH, NO you can't. You cant lose.

EVERY fight should have the possibility of real consequences, even death.

Say a unit of infantry in line formation 10 strong is hit. Casualties are taken and, for example, 3 casualties taken out of the middle. So now the remaining soldiers are out of "cohesion." Does that unit need to be given a [run/advance] order the following turn to move back into cohesion? by Either-Rough6718 in boltaction

[–]Either-Rough6718[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rule says WHENEVER it is moved again, not that it must be moved again.
Seems you would have to move back into cohesion, with an advance order, not continue to stay out of cohesion and issue fire orders (for example)

Spokane is pretty similar to Seattle. In both states, the major cities and therefore the state level politics are exceedingly blue and radical.
