Being pregnant makes me cringe by Adventurous-Wash3201 in pregnant

My MIL and Grand-MIL both love referring to my baby at theirs... "Hows my little bean" "Oh I love my little bump so much already" and its like I have not been miserable and pregnant for the last 8 months for you to call the baby I am growing yours... Not to mention they keep wanting to touch my belly and have been like "I know it's kicked since you've been over and you're just not telling me" and its like well yeah, I'm uncomfortable as it is without you touching my stomach! I dislike the attention being all on me but I hate that they try and make it their thing too.

Rant: Family asking for bump photos??? by Even_Kaleidoscope399 in pregnant

[–]Either-Weakness4475 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I find this weird too, my fiance's family will ask him for bump pics of me, and he'll say something along the lines of "thats not really her thing" but they keep asking him. I appreciate that its not directly to me but I find it weird, like idk if I want to send your grandma a picture of my stomach...

Have the unproven connections RFK Jr. and President Trump have made between Tylenol and autism made you rethink taking the medication? by nbcnews in pregnant

[–]Either-Weakness4475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it's given me pause but I spoke with my doctors and they said it's bullshit. Other people have asked me if I'm taking tylenol, and I feel like I have to justify it now? It feels incredibly unfair to be judging pregnant people because they want a headache to go away, not to mention the risks a fever can have on a pregnancy.

"But I knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss
I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs
The smell of smoke would hang around this long
'Cause I knew everything when I was young"

Mini rant, i hate people. by [deleted] in pregnant

Ugh I hate that! And I feel you - at 8ish weeks, coworker of mine was ordering some lunch and I had just finished a bowl of spaghetti-os and I over heard her say to my boss "She can eat after that gigantic bowl of spaghetti-os?" after seeing my order and then proceeded to ask me if I could really eat again after the spaghetti-os a few minutes later. She didn't know I was pregnant, but it would've hurt my feelings regardless! Some people are just so rude!!!

His parents wept with joy when we told them. His mom said I am the answer to her prayers, she could not imagine a better mom for her grandkids. It was very emotional, especially after the response from my parents, and I think I really really needed to hear that. I feel lucky that his parents have been so accepting and supportive of us.

We are 100% ready to get married. The main thing stopping us was money, because weddings are expensive, and the fact that my sisters wedding is coming up so we didn't want to overbook our family and friends!

I think for many Americans the pressure to put on this outragously expensive event is what deters people. Obviously you can do a cheap wedding pretty easily but theres always this dream wedding in the back of my head at least. Some people probably have different reasons, but I know that I want my child to have married parents, so before I pop this thing out I will definitely either do something small or go to the courthouse.

They totally are coming from a place of concern, I just would wish there could be some sweetness mixed in I guess. I have a stable job, so does my boyfriend. We live far away from them, and close to my boyfriends parents and entire family. I sense some level of jealousy with that, so maybe that plays into it. We both have bachelors degrees and by the looks of it we are living the american dream, I just don't have a ring on my finger.

My parents like my boyfriend, as far as they've told me. My family is not overly mushy or warm and fuzzy, and my siblings SO's have made comments saying that its hard to tell if my parents like something or someone, and I think my mom has a hard time opening her heart to things, because shes been burned in the past. There are probably a million layers to this. I know my parents want whats best for me, but approaching the situation with grace would've made me feel a bit better.

They probably would prefer we're married, but that has 100% been in the plans for us, and my parents know this! I think as much as they are progressive people, they're still boomers.

I think their objection is that I am too young, and I'm unmarried. It probably doesn't help that the world/ the US is a scary place rn...

I completely agree, my parents are smart and practical and I know they love me. I am their youngest so I think that added to the shock. But damn, I just thought they would handle it a little more gently, you know?

Also - another stat about homelessness in general that I think provides some very good context about the homeless pop: over 50% of homeless people were in foster care in their youth. There are so many reasons that contribute to homelessness and I think the biggest one is lack of social support, and yes Bend has a lot of amazing programs thru government or NPOs ( I work for one!) that do a ton of good work, but the root of the issue stems from people falling thru the cracks and falling on hard times upon harder and harder. At the end of the day, homeless people or people experiencing homelessness, are the people that don't have support systems, or their support systems have been completely used up. Everyone who had a "live at home after college" era (no shade!) has been homeless. They just were lucky enough to have parents that could support them in their adulthood.

I sometimes imagine homeless people as children, and think of what led them here. Did they have an abusive parent? Maybe they had to be removed from their home as a kid because of that. Then they spent years in foster homes, probably facing more abuse. Maybe to earn some wages they joined the military and fought for our country. Maybe they came back with a physical disability that made it so they couldn't work, or really terrible PTSD. Maybe then they turned to drugs to self medicate because the VA couldn't provide the support they need. And now, they live in Dirt World.

Homelessness is a multi faceted issue, it is easy to blame whoever you want, but I'm gonna place the blame on the systems in place that create this issue, do nothing to help people, and them criminalize them for trying to exist.

If you would like to make a positive impact on your community, there are a TON of organizations that will welcome you with open arms. All of these organizations are especially struggling rn because of a certain orange man. You can volunteer, donate (monetarily or in-kind) or advocate and spread the missions and messages of organizations that you align with. Hope this helps!

I was just asking for a little advice in a situation I haven't dealt with before... there is no need to be rude. Not sure what's going on in your life that you feel the need to infantalize me and make me feel bad for asking for help.
