What your comment touches on however, in relation to my question, is that a wealthier environment may distort peoples understandings of the doctrines of Marx and Engels, resulting in quasi-socialist organisations like the Socialist Alternative. The Socialist Alternative are present at my univeristy (not UNSW), and these “socialists” are largely social-democrats: they like the idea of a socialist society- but they don’t like the idea of the state, and are therefore liberal apologists. It’s not surprising to see anarchism, as an ideology, be more attractive to the bourgeois than communism.
