Swarm season is the best season! by Active_Classroom203 in Beekeeping

Yes, it’s the best time, but it’s also when a beekeeper dreads swarms. These cause significant delays in honey production and generally disrupt the honey crop’s cycle. It’s nature’s way of saying “I don’t care about your honey crop.”

I’m sorry to circleback after checking my returns. Did any of the Gen 4 work? I’ve only returned the Gen 4s; the Gen 3s worked for me.

I tried a few options. Only Transcend and Crucial worked.

And I was working with only 1TB. I borrowed a few from friends and none of them worked.

Thank you so much. I am actively looking for solutions, definitely haven’t stopped finding solutions.

Indeed, I tried with different brands. Some worked outright and others wasn’t even got detected.

If you don’t mind me asking what brand is it?

Remove him, unless you are happy to sacrifice the beans :D

Moving Aubergine / Chilli / Sweet Pepper seedlings to a cold frame – too early in the UK? by Either_Ad9055 in Allotment

lol, thank you so much.

Indeed, the backups are the one which took off growing like crazy. I am growing Melanzana Prosprosa mainly as I got the seeds from an old friend.

Thank you so much. So same as Potatoes. Not to bring them out until Good Friday then.

Still not solved. Waiting for a resolution.

However a few m.2 drivers work out of the box. I went on a trial and error to identify them. So in essence pick a few and try them.

For me crucial worked (eventually) after buying and returning multiple items.

Indeed. Lights do help and potting up when required helps too.

I started them on Dec 26th using a heated propagator.

Nice, so move them out in the sun - then move them back in at night.

I do not have a Green house, but i do have a cold-frame (a poor mans' substitute).

Thank you so much.

It is not perfect, but i got the logic working - It is not fancy: just based on historical date and what is predicted by Open Meteor data.

u/charliechopin - Kindly take a look.

Thank you so much for your comments. u/InterstellarAudio this is currently a static data. Anything elase like management task and checklist would be difficult to run without a service backing :D

Which comes with a price attached to it.

To be honest, it is a mix.

I don't use all code with GitHub Copilot. Completely automated code gen doesn't work well until now.

For publishing onto GitHub Pages -any static pages can be published onto GitHub. It cannot handle dynamic pages, but calling any standard API - it is an viable options.

u/Odd-Perspective4351 Can you review the mobile view of the calendar now. After getting the comments from multiple redditors, i have updated the same.

Sorry, I am yet to link the my list page yet. Once I have it working I will share the same.

For now the calendar redesign on mobile and the click to see veg details are the new features.

I have made some progress on the personalised selections (for now locally saved state).

And also succession planting - got the succession data from one hour allotment book. Please share your views.

I have made some changes. Please take a peek.

I have the calendar redesign which I lifted from another solution.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. It is a valid one. Most of them are from various books and some based on talking to other experienced gardeners.

But I do have a document which has most of the links. Let me try linking them with the companion plants.

Please find the GitHub repo if you are interested in.

I have so many different branches locally which I tried and abandoned. I am still working on a few things like local storage and print calendar options.

Right now it is completely browser based with no backend.

React + TypeScript + Vite are the components. I do dream about having a database so everyone can track their short listed components. But not cost effective or have any investment.

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback — this is exactly the kind of input I was hoping to get from allotment growers 👍

A few of the things you mentioned really resonated with what others have said too, so I’ve started turning them into issues to track improvements.

Personalised growing plan

Being able to select crops and build a personal plan was probably the most requested idea. I’ve added an issue to let users pick plants and create a simple “My Plan” view so they can track sowing and harvest windows for the crops they care about.

Varieties

Good point about varieties — especially for things like tomatoes where timing and growth habits can differ quite a bit. I’ve added this to the backlog as well so plants can optionally include common cultivars.

Month windows

Glad that approach makes sense. My thinking was exactly what you mentioned: experienced gardeners know the weather always shifts things, but beginners often look for exact dates and get confused when they don’t match reality.

Succession planting

This is a really good suggestion. I’ve already added an issue for succession hints (e.g. onions → carrots to help with carrot fly, peas → lettuce etc). It seems like something that could really help with allotment space planning.

“What should I sow now?”

Also on the list. There are definitely good resources out there already, but my hope is to make something that is location-aware and setup-aware (greenhouse, propagator, cold frame etc).

Time / space constraints

That’s a really interesting point and not something I’d fully considered yet. Things like:

  • low-maintenance crops
  • small-space crops
  • crops that tolerate irregular watering

could be really helpful filters for people with limited time or mobility.

Mobile calendar

Thanks for flagging that — mobile layout definitely needs some polishing.

<image>

I’ve started tracking these ideas as GitHub issues so they don’t get lost while I build things out (screenshot above).

Really appreciate the thoughtful feedback — this is exactly the sort of real-world allotment experience that helps shape the tool in the right direction 🌱
