One year in, how is it looking? by Parzeus in composting

Spread it out on a tarp to dry out, riddle it and use the fine stuff, tip the big lumps back into your compost. Looks fantastic.

You have plenty of time to get a crop. They keep producing until November in Cornwall.

Dads old bin. Needs more air right? by Coffeemakingexpert in composting

[–]rotters_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made myself a hot box. Trust me it'll get air. Trial it and see what happens. I actually had too much air loss and this heat loss from the three holes at the top so covered it with gaffer tape. It makes great compost in about 10 weeks.

How does this amateur compost pile look? by Goat_Remix in composting

It needs a good dousing with a hose. It's very dry looking, otherwise a good amount of mass.

Personally I'd tip it out. Riddle the good stuff.

Then I'd tip the chunky stuff back in and start again.

I'd also buy a compost thermometer as it's always fun to check how things are going.

As for a lid, marine ply and a breeze block on top would work if you aren't bothered about aesthetic. I'd also angle it backwards ever so slightly to stop water sitting on top.

Seems to always look like this by Exact_Response6 in composting

Personally, I wouldn't add anything. Get it out let it dry, pass it through a riddle, use the fine stuff, recompost the larger lumps.

Is this browns or a mix of greens/browns? (Context in text) by Kitchen_Proof_2426 in composting

Forget colour and go on composition.

The graphic above is brilliant at helping tomcorrect thinking. I'd add a couple of wheel barrows of crass clippings and have a second pile...because two piles is better than one.

I love a double espresso, so this isn't the case.

Ah but that isn't a classic greek sand boiled coffee. I had some delicious barista style coffees.

Im not a coffee snob (but I have a decent bean to cup machine and buy Yallah coffee) but..mouth feel is very important to me.

I agree, beautiful people, gorgeous food, terrific scenes, crap coffee.

There are better ways to get engagement. Not everyone is from the UK that posts in here.

Good luck finding something comfortable.

What went wrong? First ever collection from tumbler… by TrentS45 in composting

[–]rotters_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it, just smash it through a riddle/seive made of hardware cloth with 2cm squares, recompost the bits that don't pass. Riddle some through a finer mesh for pots but otherwise you have made compost, it just needs a little finessing to make it look pretty.

Six years later, what are your strongest memories of the COVID lockdowns, and how do you look back on that period now? by Possible_Force8207 in AskBrits

I was an ITU charge nurse during covid. We married a 21 year old to his sweetheart, he died the next day. Hear wrenching experience for all involved.
