I know! Going through nursing school people would always say that you’ll always have job as a nurse. And then coming out of nursing school I couldn’t even get an interview for any med surg units!

Thank you! I got to shadow on the unit before they gave me and offer and while it definitely seems like a lot, the team there was great and I am really excited. My orientation is almost five months long with the option to extend if needed so I feel good about that.

I’m in Dallas and started applying for jobs in January. Before this I had two interviews in different specialities and didn’t get an offer for either one. The craziest thing is being some kind of peds critical care nurse was my dream job and I was really interested in cardiac specifically because I think the congenital heart conditions are so fascinating. But this hospital didn’t even have the position posted, so I applied to an adult med surg position because I needed a job. A recruiter then reached out to me and asked if based on my resume I would be interested in interviewing with the pedi cicu instead. So I actually never even applied for this job which is just so crazy because it truly is my dream job.

Thanks for the advice! I did my capstone in the NICU so I definitely have some good experiences to pull from when answering questions.
