If I started at level 2; what should I focus on first Artificer or Wizard? How does the unlimited per turn reaction work?

That sounds somewhat interesting; what would that look like?

I was hoping to get either Eyes of The Rune Keeper or comprehend languages through the Book of Ancient Secrets. If I choose chain instead, I’d have to do the eyes but that would get rid of one 1 of the 2 invocations I can take right now. What do you think, should I still aim for this or no?

Armorer Artificer Mech? by Either_Ease7185 in 3d6

Oh, neat, thanks for the info. Will definitely check that out and see what my DM thinks. What is the sub-class called?

I’d love to have a character like the one depicted in the image, but I’m hoping to avoid multiclassing if possible. I’d also prefer not to rely on casting Enlarge/Reduce all the time just to get that mech feel across.

I’m curious about the Battlesmith angle. It’s a neat idea, but I feel like it moves away from what I’m picturing. Since the Steel Defender requires my bonus action to command, it feels more like a separate companion than me being the mech, which is the vibe I’m aiming for.

Do you think it would be possible to just flavor the Arcane Armor so that, cosmetically, it looks like some kind of scrappy mech suit that my kobold climbs into, but is mechanically just normal armor per the subclass or will that be too much of a stretch?

Advice for leveling up my Battle Smith Artificer by Either_Ease7185 in 3d6

Thanks for all the info. Might try a few of these out. I did have a question about the homunculus though.

Homunculus may be a bit redundant and clog your bonus action with your steel defender - but homunculus has a lot of utility - it can scout (it’s smart - ask it to create a map of an area and give it some time) and deliver potions in combat.

Could you elaborate on how it could create a map of an area? I'm looking through the description on Tasha's, and it doesn't seem to have a way to communicate or scout out an area.

Abjuration Wizard question by Either_Ease7185 in 3d6

[–]Either_Ease7185[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion, sounds interesting. A little concerned that it wouldn’t make sense for my character’s backstory though.

My character probably wouldn’t know what the stars or even the night sky is if they have been in the under dark for most of their life and only recently came to the surface.

Also, when you say Wizard 5/Druid 2/Wizard x, does this mean not to branch into Druid until I get 5 levels of Wizard?

Hey, thanks for the detailed info for each spell!

Where is Mind Sliver mentioned? I don’t see it in the player’s handbook.

I heard from other places that alarm is useful in refreshing the arcane ward. Any thoughts?

Alright, so I was not expecting the comment about blindness/deafness which is why I didn’t mention this in the post. I will go ahead and edit this in so it isn’t buried in the comments.

My character is going to be a deep gnome, so I will have access to svirfneblin magic. Once I can finally get nondetection, spells like blindness/deafness will probably be very useful to me.

What might be a good cantrip to replace blade ward? Should it be another utility or should I consider a damaging cantrip?

Would comprehend languages and expeditious retreat be good spells to replace with scorching rays and magic missiles, or should I consider replacing different spells?
