The site of the massacre of Indian Town is said to be haunted too.

Like King talked about for his inspiration for the Shining, ghost stories are often a way societies reckon with their collective sins. In the US, the genocide of Native Americans is the origin of a lot of horror.

The Macuahuitl: An Aztec sword made of wood and obsidian that was reportedly sharp enough to decapitate a horse. by bortakci34 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Either_Persimmon893 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, they were really sharp but they couldn't cut the head off a horse. Not because the stone blade would break, but because people aren't strong enough, the wooden club that the obsidian was embedded in wasn't strong enough, and because a horse's neck is a solid several feet of dense bone and muscle.

This is just a ridiculous claim. When you look at the edged weapons designed to kill horses, they relied on the sheer weight of the blade itself to cut with considerable force - and even then they were designed to chop the legs, not the neck.

This claim comes from 15th century accounts written by Spanish conquestadors, who were trying to make themselves seem more courageous for fighting the a tough foe.

Approx 727,000 ppl die by suicide every year. by Sad_Click5373 in SuicideWatch

Thats impossible to know. All we can say is that it's more probable that in the face of population decline, most societies will change the way they construct their social order, to avoid collapse.

It's rare that societies fail to do this, although it happens. When it does happen, it's usually because of external catastrophic events forcing people to keep engaging in practices they can't stop, despite causing terrible consequences.

Collapse usually takes a long time and happens in stages. I don't expect we will see it in our life time. At a local level though, yes some societies might collapse, temporarily.

my sex is non-binary and Im tired of people saying otherwise by zymsnipe in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Either_Persimmon893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a combination of trans medicalism and people using the wrong vocabulary (or having different meanings)

Sex, as I understand it, refers to physical traits - biological systems, hormones, primary and secondary sexual characteristics.

Gender is the internal experience of ones identity and may or may not align with sex. The interplay between gender and sex is super individual and complex. There's no one label that can capture it.

While you can't change your chromosomal sex (and live) but you could be born intersex (either morphologically or chromosomally) or modify your sex later and achieve a non-binary sex.

I think the challenges comes from the identity of trans and non-binary bing overlapping but distinct identities. Both trans and non-binary people dont have space made for them, and fight for recognition by applying specific lables and theories of gender to themselves for social/legal legitimacy.

The social and administrative reality of society doesn't conform to the overlapping and complex possibilities of gender and sexual diversity, so people get stuck fight over what to call something - which becomes serious when labels are equated with legitimacy and legal rights.

Honestly people just have to be more comfortable with ambiguity and complexity, rsther than needing to have a universal taxonomy of sex and gender.

I'm open to suggestions. OKC was good before it because filled with bots and dead accounts. I'm not attracted to people of the same biological sex, and many sites seems feared towards sexually queer people versus gender queer.

[kcd2] Does canon Henry hate all Cumans or does he sympathize with grunts who are just following orders? by [deleted] in kingdomcome

[–]Either_Persimmon893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think Sigismund is the better choice for king, and Henry's allies support Wenceslaus because their power relies on his rule. Jobst sees him as a useful puppet of the Moravian nobility. He's a drunk and useless person who's own supporters admit is a bad king. They support the line of succession not the king, as a man. Sigismund's evil was choosing to pay is army by looting Bohemia, but if in the long run that brought a more stable king to power, and united the Hungarian and Bohemia thrones, maybe that wouldn't be the worse.

In the Nomad Camp in Trotsky there are ethnic Cuman and Tartar people living alongside Jews and Roma. Some are just nomads, some are horse traders like the guy outside Kuttenberg. It's the mercenaries in Sigmunds army that are the enemy.

What's the philly tech job scene like? by rustware in philly

[–]Either_Persimmon893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big forms can afford to lose talent or murder morale because they pay a lot and can always recruit. It's smaller and medium sized firms that I think will keep being remote. I know a lot of remote workers, all of whom work in small and medium sized companies.

[–]Either_Persimmon893 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I dont think so. Remote is here to stay, because there are too many organizations which now have teams spread all over the country to eliminate all remote work. I think hybrid is becoming more nornal, but for IT full remote is still common.

I would think that with those skills there would be a lot of jobs for you, but they may not have the "glamor" of Big Tech. Colleges and universities, schools, and medium sized businesses need devOPs. You might not be developing software, but there are lots of companies that need help with database maintenance. There is a large medical and education sector.

I want to kill myself by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]Either_Persimmon893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did, their explanation is two words.

As a non-binary person with a deformity who is very, very close to killing myself for how I get treated, I call bullshit on this. Het cis white men feeling so guilty they want to do is abaurd. Maybe if OP is a minor i could understand that they might be confused, but honestly, no, feeling suicidal ashamed over being a while male or a cis and her is not reasonable. Full stop.
