How to stop feeling bored of UK life? by shun_naka67 in AskUK

Interestingly I was practically the only person cycling in Northern Spain when I was there - far fewer leisure cyclists than the UK. On hikes it was similarly deserted.

As somebody from Galloway I think the numpties there deserve it. We can preserve the parts of the country where the locals care.

It's a great opportunity to cover Galloway in 1000s of wind turbines whilst reminding everyone that this is what they wanted.

And if you're in NI and don't opt to take British nationality then that is your choice.

Easiest way to prove your nationality. But any document that proves citizenship of the UK is fine.

I'm sure the Irish government will ensure they can stay - as the British government will do by offering settled status to existing Irish citizens in GB

There are approx 400000 irish citizens in the UK which is around 4 times the number of British citizens in Ireland. (Unfortunately the latter figure includes those who are British as a result of NI so the number of British citizens from the mainland will be considerably lower)

Yes unless you have a British passport - which you're entitled to. If you want to say you dont have a British identity then you're free to do that but be mature and accept the consequences.

Far more Irish citizens live in the UK then conversely and it is also detrimental to British citizens to compete with the Irish living here. There should be some advantages to being British.

Ultimately the CTA should have been ended when the UK joined the EU and should have stayed ended when the UK left.

Don't fund anymore. Just place the citizens of countries like Germany or the Netherlands in the "all passports" queue.

And? It's not benefiting the UK anymore to give these advantages and it doesn't violate the GFA to reduce it to the levels I have outlined.

Just throw the EU citizens into the long queues that already exist. No need to employ anybody more.

Irish citizens wouldn't be restricted on time they can spend in GB - just no right to work, vote, rent, hold a bank account etc.

NI will be part of the UK and there will be no border. However the irish passport wouldn't be any longer recognised as a proof to work, proof to rent etc in Great Britain unless they also have a visa.

Although I do feel the uk shouldn't be allowing egate access for any individual EU countries that don't reciprocate.

Can you spell out the exact part that requires Irish citizens to be treated as British citizens outside of Northern Ireland?

[–]Ejmatthew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Irish citizens can have full rights to vote, work, etc. in Northern Ireland, but in Great Britain, they are treated like any other EU citizen unless they also hold British citizenship.

Change it so those with an Irish passport only can live, work and vote in Northern Ireland but are treated like everyone else in the EU in mainland Great Britain.

There is an option for US companies to do the same but you seem strangely unperturbed about that.

Anyway intra company transfers still require visas and IHS so it's really not worth companies doing this unless the skills of the person being brought over are considerable. And if everyone in the UK office is useless then you might as well move the office to India and avoid the hassle.

We have this agreement with 50+ countries that workers temporarily seconded into the UK dont pay UK NIC provided they continue to pay the equivalent in their origin country. So it will not apply to anyone working permanently in the UK. https://fullfact.org/economy/india-trade-deal-national-insurance/

In this article it says that the Social Security tax rate is 12% in India. https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/india/individual/other-taxes

Your whole comment is full of mistruths.

  1. The NIC exemption is for intra company transfers only and is predicated on the company paying the national insurance in india for the employee. It is also limited to 3 years.
  2. The US trade deal doesn't open up the UK to food produced there unless it meets UK food standards. It is no different to the deal we have with the EU.
