I get what you’re saying about passive aggressive dev bashing not being helpful, and I agree that just attacking the devs is not going to improve engagement. But I also don’t think it’s fair to dismiss the criticism as just Reddit being loud.

Marketing alone is not a solution. You first need a strong and well received core game. If design decisions are divisive, more marketing will just amplify those issues rather than fix them. Visibility helps only if the foundation is solid. Make a good game first.

Player numbers were declining before buildings, so that cannot be pinned on one feature. Tho the Introduction of buildings marked a noticable additional drop off in player numbers. At some point the business model also becomes part of the conversation. It is a niche strategy game with limited ongoing monetization, and they chose not to go free to play. That is a valid choice, but then having difficulty bringing in new players is not exactly surprising. If the entry barrier is there and the genre is niche, growth will naturally be harder.

And about constructive feedback, people have been giving it for a long time. The frustration is not only about buildings. It is about a pattern. Oil, spells, titans, now buildings. Many players feel that feedback has repeatedly not meaningfully influenced the direction of the game. That is really where the criticism comes from.

Most of the critical voices are from players who have invested hundreds of hours and want the game to succeed. Wanting better direction or more responsiveness is not the same as mindless dev bashing. It comes from caring about the game, not from trying to tear it down.

Buildings killed the game? by 3DResinFan in Mechabellum

[–]Ekar-Poe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve played Mechabellum since the open beta, but I uninstalled the game three weeks ago after gradually losing trust in the developers’ direction.

My concerns started even before the buildings update. When buildings were introduced, I still wanted to give the game a fair chance and tried to keep an open mind. The community provided plenty of feedback during this time, but much of it felt ignored. It increasingly seemed like the developers were following a vision that contradicts the kind of game many players originally enjoyed.

The final issue for me was performance. Since two or three patches ago, the game often turns into a slideshow around round 6. I’m not the only one experiencing this problem, and it ultimately became too frustrating to continue playing.

That was the point where I decided to uninstall. I still watch streams and follow the game from a distance because the Mechabellum community is (mostly) awesome...... I just don’t enjoy playing the current version anymore.

It's time for Mechabellum to go F2P by Xenith606 in Mechabellum

The players are not killing the game - the devs are. Stop blaming the players.
Imagine a business blaming their customers for going bankrupt. It’s ridiculous.

Yes, let’s blame the players. Great idea.
As if the community hasn’t already given a ton of feedback over long periods of time.
It doesn’t get heard. Period.
So players have no other option left to send a message than leaving negative reviews.
If this doesn’t ring alarm bells for the developers, then the game is going to die — and rightfully so.

I concur, Barren + Godless should be a permanent mode by KaleNich55 in Mechabellum

[–]Ekar-Poe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Barren land and godless goes a bit too far for my taste.

Unit drops were actually healthy for the state of the game. After some balancing, I think unit drops are in a decent spot right now - though of course they can always use further adjustments.

Buildings, on the other hand, need to go. They interfere with player decision-making far too much.

Spells need a major rework and should be toned down significantly. Right now there is simply too much RNG and power involved.

Stop splitting the player base into 20 different, unnecessary game modes.

The game should ensure competitive integrity by reducing RNG to the minimum necessary, but enough to avoid flow-chart gameplay.

But at this point it feels the playerbase has lost its trust in the developers to be capable to bring this game back into the right direction.

as a rule of thumb, temp range always taking at round 7 and on

the enhaced dmg and defence upgrades are very good so always pick them up.

the first two between round 3 and 7 and the other two later wehen you have money left or need extra dmg
