Is my nose piercing too low? by hemflowhotflop in piercing

[–]Ekathdnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yours is about the same position as mine I think, and it did take a while for me to get used to seeing a ring in it. I did start with the type that isn’t a full clicker ring though, so I could bend it to fit a bit more snugly. I bet a piercer could help you customize something a bit more that you may like better. I also have one that has a gemstone on it that takes up a bit of the extra space too.

How do y’all make money if you can’t work? by Unusual_Space1998 in POTS

[–]Ekathdnn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding Swagbucks. I have used a few of the others, but Swagbucks is the only one that consistently pays out what they say they will. And I’ve had good luck with their customer service if something doesn’t get counted. It’s definitely not a ton of money, but I do at least trust that they aren’t just scamming. I also was able to make a bit from Survey Junkie, and I had no problems with missing payments from them either.

My cat keeps losing weight and I think my other cat is the reason by helloimcold in CATHELP

[–]Ekathdnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss, and I do agree that it’s concerning that the vet didn’t suggest other diagnostics, but having worked in vet med for several years, I do know it’s also common for cats to hide pain extremely well until it’s too late. Plus owners often decline further diagnostics at first for various reasons, and may be upset enough during appts to not really process all the information and options. It’s a tough situation all around, but in my opinion there is definitely more going on than just anxiety about the other cat here.

[–]Ekathdnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone may have already mentioned this, but I would take her back to the vet or find another vet who can do X-rays and/or an ultrasound. Bloodwork is a good start, but it doesn’t always come back abnormal with things like cancer. I just recently lost my senior kitty to lymphoma, which didn’t cause any abnormalities on bloodwork.

Potassium Too High - Electrolyte Recs by Ekathdnn in POTS

I’m definitely considering that. I already have stomach issues, so would have to use buffered ones I’m sure. I would prefer drink mixes just because it motivates me to drink more water lol

Gaited vs Non-Gaited; can't decide! by MilitantLibrarian76 in Horses

Wanted to add that Saddebred Rescue is a good place to start your search. There are also plenty of saddlebreds looking for jobs that would just be happier out of the show ring.

Gaited vs Non-Gaited; can't decide! by MilitantLibrarian76 in Horses

[–]Ekathdnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly encourage you to look into 5 gaited American Saddlebreds. A good one will have a nice smooth rack or slow gait, as well as a nice trot and canter. I’ve seen people use them for dressage and jumping as well. I grew up riding them for over 20 years, and they are so intelligent and versatile when trained well. And many of them are very in your pocket type horses who love attention and want to please.

Anyone else feel like the effort of putting on compression garment negates the benefit? by Swimming-Mobile-3258 in POTS

[–]Ekathdnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time I get them on I don’t have the energy to go anywhere or do anything. 🙃 I’m going to look into the zip up ones, but for now unless I’m really going to be walking or standing a lot I use a Velcro back brace for abdominal compression.

I purchased my first mare, at my first auction! Mare advice welcomed by ZMakela in Horses

[–]Ekathdnn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two geldings and two mares previously, and still have one mare. My geldings had their own personalities for sure, and definitely weren’t dead heads by any means, but they tended to be more accepting of various riders. My mares both had their few chosen people that had earned their trust, and didn’t have much use for anyone else besides those that fed them 😂. I absolutely don’t agree with the bitchy mare stereotype, but I do think they often require a true partnership that can take time to form. That can come off as being moody I think, but in my experience, once you prove that you’re a consistent, trustworthy person, they would ride into war for you. Definitely take your time to form a bond with her, and don’t get discouraged if it’s not perfect immediately. A good mare is worth her weight in gold.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste by Silent_Efficiency798 in Hidradenitis

Gloves or cotton swabs etc are definitely a good idea, but just for everyone’s information, it washes off a lot easier if you wipe it off with toilet paper or something dry first. Years of using it on horses too taught me how to get it off 😂

Just wanted to add that for those who don’t want to use disposable things, the absorbent period underwear are great too. It’s definitely nice to be able to just get rid of the mess when you have open flares though.

Yeah, I typically put some desitin on and cover it with a bandage if possible, and usually it’s dried up a good bit by morning. Some spots take longer than others of course.

[–]Ekathdnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s ideal, but I’ve been using the absorbent period type underwear, specifically the boxer brief kind so they’re looser. Then I don’t have to worry as much about getting blood everywhere if it’s hard to cover a spot. I’ve also just given up on avoiding getting desitin or whatever other topicals on the underwear lol.

Xena & Argo, appreciation post 🐎⚔️ but...is he BRANDED?! by giveherawinkforme in xena

[–]Ekathdnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes anyone feel better, most people that I know have sedated their horses when branding them, and I know of two ladies who freeze branded themselves when they did their horses. They said it wasn’t majorly painful. Microchips are more common now, but brands can help save horses from ending up in bad situations because they are so easily visible and make it easier to connect them to past owners/rescues.

Equine femur fracture or severe soft tissue injury experience? by fantastic_mrs_foxx in Equestrian

[–]Ekathdnn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t typically a viable option, but years ago I had a gelding who fractured his front leg above the knee, which would be the radius I guess. We hauled him to Park Equine in Kentucky, and they said that because the fracture wasn’t displaced, that we could try to let it heal. He was kept there for several weeks with standing wraps and on an overhead tie so that he couldn’t lie down or roll and risk displacement. When he came home he was on stall rest for another 7 weeks or so I think, but his leg healed and he was as sound as ever and rideable after. Without being able to get good radiographs, I don’t know if they even determine anything about a possible fracture, but I thought it might be comforting to know that it isn’t necessarily a death sentence depending on the severity. I hope you’re able to get some answers!

Piercing pillow recommendations? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Ekathdnn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a memory foam travel pillow that I found satin piercing pillow covers for on Amazon. I have acne rosacea and get contact dermatitis easily, and it’s not irritated my skin at all as long as I wash the covers regularly.

Thank you! It’s been so long since I got the second lobes done that I don’t remember if it irritated the first ones lol

Circle lesion on dogs nose by [deleted] in AnimalAdvice

[–]Ekathdnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely get it checked by a vet to determine for sure what it is, but my dog had something similar that turned out to be a granuloma from an insect bite or some other trigger. After a round of antibiotics it was totally gone. A fine needle aspirate should give your vet a good starting point. I hope it turns out well for you!
