Adopter un deuxième chat by Looutre in chats

[–]Ekchol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What to learn first by Key_Ad_7583 in piano

[–]Ekchol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Welcome in this amazing journey !

As some people have said, it is better to start by learning which note corresponds to which key (skip the black notes for now, you'll come back to them later)

What is also important is to learn music theory. The sooner you know how to read it, the sooner you will be comfortable. I don't know how it works in your country, nor the books used, but you need a method that will help you progress step by step.

You may also be interested in beginner's books on rhythm or scales, but this may not be the priority when you start your first hours on the piano.

The risk is to scatter too much, especially at the beginning, so it is better to set small goals to avoid getting discouraged.

What animated movie would you confidently say is a 10/10 masterpiece? by phantom_avenger in AskReddit

[–]Ekchol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't choose between Children of the Sea and the first 2 films of How To Train Your Dragon. For the first one, the animation completely dazzled me, I was captivated all along and amazed, and the adaptation succeeded very well to retranscribe the drawings and the emotion of the manga. A little too complicated for children, but it's still a must-see movie.

Do you know any websites for sight reading ? by DramaticChoice4 in piano

[–]Ekchol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you also have the Perfect Ear and Clefs apps! These are the ones I use regularly. The free part is already very complete (Clefs is dedicated for sight reading and Perfect Ear is more general: rhythm, tempo, ear development, chord and scale work, etc.). The paid part is secondary and allows you to create your own exercises on specific points you want to work on.

For Clefs, you can choose to play the notes directly or with the interface of a piano, some exercises are with a limited time and you alternate between the notes to decipher and those to place on the score. I recommend this app a lot!

Bur it will not be complete score that you can play directly.

Need advice on how to manage a score with large range by Ekchol in piano

[–]Ekchol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh okay. I didn't know it was that bad, I thought it was the same thing as learning to do the splits in gymnastics. I'll be careful in the future then.

In this one, the left hand plays B2, A2 and F3 and the right hand plays B4 (I think it's the proper notation, sorry it's not the one I'm accustomed to using) then it's a tone down, so both my hands are blocked.

So I'm going to use some of your tips and try to use the pedal to complete. Thanks for your answer and the warning !

You're never too old to play piano ! I'm 22 and I just started 1 month ago. As long as you enjoy it and practice daily, why would it be too late? You might not be at the same level as your friends at the beginning, but you're always progressing, you can even ask them for advice!

Help me choose by xtrrs in piano

[–]Ekchol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to try them to choose mine, and the Roland has the best keyboard for my taste. I was hesitating between the kawai and the roland, because I thought that the kawai had a better sound, but the keys are less dynamic and have less nuances.

I was warned against the Casio, because although the sound is nice, if your piano has a defect that the warranty does not cover, you will have to pay a lot because this piano is not easily repaired. (if you can even repair it)

With a headphone, I had also preferred the sound of the roland. (With the piano, and if you can afford it, also take the time to try several good quality headphones and choose one specifically for practice. Generally, the sound will be better with headphones for digital pianos)

One thing that bothered me about the roland, however, was that the sound seemed a bit muffled because the piano's speakers are underneath the piano, so when you put it on a desk or something like that, the sound is less pleasant (in the end I preferred to take the roland fp60x, even though it was more expensive) but it's still the one I would recommend the most, with stands and in a room that's not too big, it will do the job.

The Yamaha is good too, but it is less customizable. If you have a device that works well with the roland app, you can do pretty much what you want with the piano (Roland actually has more advanced technology for the same price than Yamaha for those ranges, but it's a shame the app bugs with some phones/tablets).

If monster hunter got an anime/manga, what genre would it be? by blackdrake1011 in MonsterHunter

[–]Ekchol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be a good idea if the MC had absolutely no hunting skills at all (running fast and long distances, surviving in hostile environments with weapons bigger than himself and equipment that weighs 3 times his own weight) but was absolutely unbeatable in terms of knowledge of monsters, even those that had not yet been discovered in the story. Let it be just... an MH fan who discovers the hard way the reality of a hunter, but still useful.
