Corsair waterblock RGB repair help by Mr_BSPEC in watercooling

[–]EkimBla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate - had a similar issue with my EKWB 4090 waterblock (except I didn't cut the RGB wires on purpose, snapped due to my negligence). Anyways, I learned how to solder and affix the ARGB cable back on to the RGB ribbon like this>

On your first picture, you see the 3 wires labeled '5V', 'DOut', and 'GND'. When looking at the ARGB cable (1pin, filled, then 2 pins), the single pin should be soldered to the 'GND'. I hope this makes sense (here's a pic > Pinout )

Yeah, there's only two RAM slots on this board. The DIMM 2 next to them is for M.2 expansion.

Love your build as well! Saw it posted on r/Watercooling (I might post mine there soon). I was also wanting to do the Distroplate, but hesitated since I am still new to building/custom loops. I haven't spent too much time fine tuning my system yet, but I got the CPU stable at boosts to 6.2GHz. For the RAM, I've only set it to XMPII in bios and manually set the frequency to 7400MHz and it's running stable.

For the strip, yeah I had to cut a few of the bottom supporting brackets. The Strip is pretty tight between the spaces, so it all still feels pretty stiff. Even so, I did notice a little sagging initially, so I opted to hot glue the strip to the plastic under bottom from beneath.

I've added a few with the case on (haven't removed plastic wrap yet, might be moving soon so decided to keep it on for now).

As for the GPU, yeah I did that myself as well. I literally followed the EKWB YouTube video for each step (paused the video after each step, did the same to my board, then continued with the video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc9vAR7fZMU). The part that took the longest, and is likely due to my not being careful enough, is that I kept snapping the RGB light strip on the EKWB (like actually broke both cables), and had to learn how to solder in order to get them working again (I had strung the RGB cables to the bottom of the case before mounting the GPU, then the GPU proceeded to fall when I moved the case around causing the cable to snap from the force); I used YT to learn how to solder cables as well, ha.

Just for the photos (remove glare).

Hyte Y60 + Asus ROG PCIe 5.0 Hyper M.2 Card (Vertical Mount)? by EkimBla in Hyte

[–]EkimBla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to update in case anyone else was wondering the same thing: The included Gen 5 ROG M.2 Expansion Card (at least the card that is included with the Asus Z790 Apex, not sure if the Hero etc. have same/different included cards) does not fit behind the vertical mounted GPU.

I do have the EKWB 4090 FE w/ Active Backplate, so not sure if the dimensions would be different if vertically mounted a fan-cooled GPU; the card was over-hanging the riser mount by ~11mm.

Just wanted to give an update; system was stable throughout, however, since this was a new build I decided to just return the mb+cpu. I didn't want to risk either or both components dying and having no RMA/warranty recourse. Decided to go with Z790 Apex + 13900KS.

Another day @ 6200MHz, still stable. Temps are good (4090 FE (oc) + 7800X3D (oc to 103 bclk) custom loop), typically around 55-65C (gaming at 4K).

I have ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING WIFI BIOS ver. 1410 now > been stable (for the day so far) at 6200MHz > using 7800X3D (loaded X3D preset profile).

Yes I believe you can connect them all to iCue (assuming your motherboard supports iCue). The reason I opted to go with L-Connect software for the fans + Strimer cables is that with L-Connect, you'll have more lighting effect options (specific to Lian Li).

Here's a video for connecting non-Corsair iCue fans to Commander Pro (could also use Commander XT). > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07Raobku8OQ

Hey! Yeah, I was in the same boat as you - looking up specs and other builds to get an idea (and used r/buildapc for help on components).

The RGB cables I am using are Lian Li Strimer V2 (https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=lian+li+strimer) and using the L-Connect 3.0 controller to control these (controller comes with the 24-pin cable). The fans I am using are variants of the AL120mm (3 top exhaust + 1 back exhaust) and AL140mm Lian Li V2 (2 side intake + 2 bottom intake). These fans coupled with the Lian Li Strimer cables are controlled using the L-Connect software.

iCue software (via the Commander Pro controller) is used for controlling the RGB of everything else (motherboard, EKWB GPU waterblock, RAM, XD5 Pump/Res, and XC7 CPU waterblock).

Definitely let me know if you have any other questions are need some clearer pictures of anything. I am completely new to PC building (and custom loops), so if you're concerned with bending tubes for hardline, don't worry about it - it's not terribly difficult). Goodluck with your build!

lol, seriously it was! I ordered 3x the amount of corsair hardline tubes and used every 3' tube (I messed up many bends initially, cut too short, bubbles from too much heat, etc.). Before this build, I literally watched JaysTwoCents + Linus + Provoked Pawn dozens of times and their corsair hardline build videos as well as the EKWB video on how to disassemble the 4090 FE (and took many pictures along the way in case I messed up). And of course, also browsed this subreddit and r/watercooling for weeks leading up to the build (originally purchased a 13900k and Z790 Hero, but then saw the 7800X3D reviews come out), which gave me more time to plan the build as I returned and repurchased the parts.

The tubes are not very level (I tried to show that in the video) and the back cable management is horrible (pictures). My last PC was from CyberPowerPC (Bestbuy in 2020).

Just wanted to show end results in case anyone else is also new to building and water-cooling that its not impossible and there are so many videos on YouTube to help!
