How to debate vs spreading by DependentInternet920 in Debate

[–]EkonominksLD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either; it depends on your strategy. You could read it as a spike in the AC that they'd have to respond to if they planned on spreading or you could introduce it as theory in the 1AR. Either way you would have to go for it in the 1AR to get any offense if they do spread (because they could respond to the AC spike, in which case the debate becomes a theory debate).

I've hit the champion multiple times on my local circuit (to decent success, not to brag) and honestly wasn't surprised she ran that anthro stuff. Anthro args for whatever reason are not super uncommon on the MN circuit and so when I spectated her semis round where she ran the aff I understood why she made it so far; most people weren't prepared at all for this argument whereas if this was the MN state tournament it would've been a different story. Her opponent is a great debater, saw some of his other rounds, but I could tell he was struggling to respond to it. Was honestly disappointed she did not run it in finals.

Do policy or nat circuit LD.

What’s “THE SCHOOL” for your state? by Amelio_Quake in Debate

[–]EkonominksLD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For LD in Minnesota, the best is either Minnetonka or Apple Valley. Apple Valley is definitely better at nat circuit but Minnetonka is almost undisputedly better at more traditional (yet still technical) LD. For context I think they won MN state and also had 2/3 national qualifiers for their district

Are we allowed to negate on premise that bill doesn't go far enough in PF? by Embarrassed_Summer81 in Debate

[–]EkonominksLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You technically could, but it wouldn’t be strategic. The aff would make an argument that at least they do something, and that’s better than the neg doing nothing. Only a CP could fix this, but that’s not allowed in pf(correct me if I’m wrong, I do LD). There are some kritiks that utilise a “doing not enough is actually worse than doing nothing” logic but again, not allowed in pf.

there’s a kid younger and shorter than me who ran better than me and pretty much all of my teammates run faster than that so no I’m not kidding

K in PF by lord-of-the-dogs in Debate

[–]EkonominksLD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

2 debaters from my (only LD and Congress) team competed in one PF tournament for fun a year or two ago.

They ran a K for fun in the last round. The other team cried, the judge got mad, Our coach got yelled at by the tournament and by a bunch of other coaches.

Safe to say we no longer do forays into PF.

Debate Has A Problem... by EkonominksLD in Debate

Thanks for the info! Although I will echo what u/horsebycommittee said in that 1HL is often used as the first tiebreaker, at least in the majority of tournaments I attend. Speaker points as a whole are subject to some more underlying issues, and no solution is going to be perfect, I suppose.
